HARLINGEN, Texas - Bob Harkrider, 100, passed from the Church Living to the Church Triumphant on May 12, 2009. He was born in Center, Texas, on January 28, 1909 to Fannie Elma (Redditt) Harkrider and Robert Elijah Harkrider. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Grace Berg Harkrider, his older brother, William Max Harkrider, younger sisters, Frances Childress, and Rachel Harkrider. Mr. Harkrider is a 1937 graduate of the University of Texas with a BA in Pharmacy and BS in chemistry. His professional life took him down many paths in life. For a period of time he served as a Texas Ranger, Narcotics Division, before signing with ER Squibb and Sons, Pharmaceutical Company in Atlanta, Georgia. He was drafted in 1942 and served as a Battalion Surgeon during World War II. He remained in the Army Reserves until retiring as a full Colonel from the Reserves. While serving on the Liberty Ship, Shamrock, during World War II, he met and courted an army RN, Grace Berg. He and Grace married, Mary 19, 1945 in Davidson, North Carolina and lived in Atlanta, Georgia until her death in 1984. While in Atlanta, he owned and operated Marshall and Bell Pharmacies until becoming Manager of the Pharmacies in Rich's Department stores. In 1985, Mr. Harkrider returned to his home state, Texas, married his college sweetheart Antoinette Moss, and resided in Harlingen until his death. Survivors include his wife Antoinette Brite Moss Harkrider, daughter: Gayle (Peyton) Morgan of Atlanta, Georgia; sons: Robert (Sharon) Harkrider of Augusta, Georgia; Dr. Doug (Debra) Harkrider of Suwanee, Georgia, and Tim (Abbey) Harkrider of Cumming, Georgia; six granddaughters: Christi (Robby) Johnson, Mandi (Rob) Keener, Dana (Jason) Tirado, Ryan (Mark) Butcher, Ashley and Morgan Harkrider; and two great grandchildren: Bob and Lillie Keener. In addition he leaves two loving stepchildren and their families: Diana (Jim) Walker of Harlingen, Texas; Herbert Moss III of Laguna Vista, Texas; step grandchildren Tracy and Yvette Adair, Boerne, Texas; Dan Adair, Houston, Texas; Antoinette (Steve) Simon, Cypress, Texas, and Herb Moss, San Antonio, Texas, 10 step great grandchildren and one step great-great-grandson. Mr. Harkrider will be interred in the Columbarium at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Atlanta, Georgia.
