Columnist unfairly swipes at police

  • Follow Letters

Johnny Edwards' verbal slam of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department in the City Core column May 10 was extraordinarily insensitive and inappropriate.

Mr. Edwards should be ashamed of himself for letting his personal resentment over what he calls "superfluous citations" lead to his unprofessional disparagement of those working hard to solve a tragic multiple homicide.

Satire is a difficult target to hit, and Mr. Edwards completely missed the mark with his blurb. He would do well to be more careful as he -- or if he -- continues with this column.

Jane Garrison Blanchard, Ph.D.

No one is above well-deserved
Unpublished

No one is above well-deserved criticism. In fact, some people's love affair with law enforcement don't recognize the danger that an unprofessional and incompetent agency put the entire society in. Because U think they are always correct don't make it so and without a constant review of tactics, policy & procedures, Democracy maybe at risk because policing is a constant. Yep, what ol' Jane is advocationg is good old fashion censorship and history has shown us where that road leads.

Well JUSTUS, I'm glad to hear you say no one is above well-deserved citicism. I feel the same way about your man OBAMA. Your love affair with anything he touches ignores his obvious lack of experience and incompetence. This week, the senate, controlled by his own party, slapped him in the face and voted down financing the closure of Gitmo. Yet, if anybody criticizes this president, they're called racist by you and your ilk. Ever heard what's good for the goose is good for the gander? Tell you what, since you seem to think law enforcement is no good, the next time your whiney butt is in danger, call fat Al Sharpton!

I thought this was written

I thought this was written about Johnny Edwards. I am not surprised that it turned into a chance to bash Obama.

Good posts JUSTTHEFACTS and DRUMBEATER. My heart is breaking for poor Obama. MIESHEL, get used to it! By the way, what do you think of the senate refusing to finance the closure of Gitmo? The US Senate...you know...one of the 2 branches of congress that is controlled by Democrats, Obama's party?

Anyone (Jane Garrison

Anyone (Jane Garrison Blanchard included) that feels it necessary to append "Ph.D." to their name is suspect for, at at minimum, they have a problem maintaining a healthy ego. And, what is it with you people that have such a fixation about Obama? He seems to have so captivated your attention that your every thought is directed at him. I suspect your egos are rather disheveled too. Perhaps you should add "Ph.D." to your names and then you too can feel better about yourselves. Small-minded people talk about other people; mediocre people talk about things; people of superior intellect talk about ideas.

Talk about being off

Talk about being off subject......we need police, and the roads and streets need to be patroled to save lives. Are there some who carry their authority to far? Sure but we still need the police and othere law enforcement. All officers should not be made to look bad because of a few and they way I see it is that if you are a law abiding citizen then you have nothing to worry about to start with.

Posted by The Knave on Thu May 21, 2009 11:31 AM....Obviously you don't have the superior nor are you of even mediocre intellect according to anything I have ever read that you have posted. The fact YOU don't have the PhD is no reason to try and belittle some one who had the intellect to gain such a level of educaton/knowledge.

Hey KNAVE, I had the very same sentiments as you about fixations, a year ago when Bush was in office. What goes around comes around. Get used to it! By the way, when are your going to show this superior intellect you're claiming and actually talk about ideas? Sorry, does that sound "disheveled?"

That was just too funny

That was just too funny Knave. Boy you stepped in it. In Augusta GA PhDs and MDs are a dime a dozen with all the colleges, university, medical school, and SRS. They must give them degrees away. How come you don't have one and joined the ranks ? Perhaps people put MD or PhD after their names because they earned it and are well proud of their achievement. That PhD is the highest academic degree one can achieve unlike the dentist, lawyers, and physicians who have a professional degree. Wonders never cease. Of course your "superior intellect" comes by decree rather than having proved by degree. Hey it rhymes. Moral of story: Be careful who you swipe at and what you swipe at.
