Johnny Edwards' verbal slam of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department in the City Core column May 10 was extraordinarily insensitive and inappropriate.
Mr. Edwards should be ashamed of himself for letting his personal resentment over what he calls "superfluous citations" lead to his unprofessional disparagement of those working hard to solve a tragic multiple homicide.
Satire is a difficult target to hit, and Mr. Edwards completely missed the mark with his blurb. He would do well to be more careful as he -- or if he -- continues with this column.

Anyone (Jane Garrison Blanchard included) that feels it necessary to append "Ph.D." to their name is suspect for, at at minimum, they have a problem maintaining a healthy ego. And, what is it with you people that have such a fixation about Obama? He seems to have so captivated your attention that your every thought is directed at him. I suspect your egos are rather disheveled too. Perhaps you should add "Ph.D." to your names and then you too can feel better about yourselves. Talk about being off subject......we need police, and the roads and streets need to be patroled to save lives. Are there some who carry their authority to far? Sure but we still need the police and othere law enforcement. All officers should not be made to look bad because of a few and they way I see it is that if you are a law abiding citizen then you have nothing to worry about to start with.

The fact YOU don't have the PhD is no reason to try and belittle some one who had the intellect to gain such a level of educaton/knowledge.
JGB (PhD) must have a lot of free time on her hands. If she's never in a hurry, she'll never get a ticket. Busy reporters, on the other hand, can least afford them.
That was just too funny Knave. Boy you stepped in it. In Augusta GA PhDs and MDs are a dime a dozen with all the colleges, university, medical school, and SRS. They must give them degrees away. How come you don't have one and joined the ranks ? Perhaps people put MD or PhD after their names because they earned it and are well proud of their achievement. That PhD is the highest academic degree one can achieve unlike the dentist, lawyers, and physicians who have a professional degree. Wonders never cease. Of course your "superior intellect" comes by decree rather than having proved by degree. Hey it rhymes. Moral of story: Be careful who you swipe at and what you swipe at.
