HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Richard G. Winter, 80, beloved husband of 59 years of Belzora McZilkey Winter, entered into rest on Monday, May 18, 2009 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Nate Elias and Rev. Paul D. Enfinger officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Rusty Winter, George Carn, Eric McZilkey Dale McZilkey, Bill McZilkey and Bobby Matthews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard McZilkey, Edward McZilkey, Tony McZilkey, Brian Enfinger, Ronnie Lazenby and Bob Merritt. Mr. Winter was born on March 23, 1929 in Augusta to the late Russell Dunbar and Jessie Lazenby Winter and remained a lifelong resident. He was preceded in death by his brothers William R. Winter, Lloyd Winter and Leslie Winter, Sr. He was a retired building contractor. He loved to racoon hunt and fish and loved animals of all kinds, particularly his beloved dog "Buffy". He never met a stranger and will be truly missed by his loving family and friends. In addition to his wife Belzora, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard "Ricky" and Judy Winter; daughter and son-in- law, Cindy and Robert "Bob" Cason; granddaughter and husband, Barbara and Glenn Crawford, all of Hephzibah; grandson and his wife, Richard Jason and Amanda Herron Winter, Augusta; four great grandchildren, Cynthia Nicole Love, Christian Haley Dolph, Lauren Marie Dolph, Richard Wayne Winter and a host of nieces and nephews.
