AIKEN, S.C. - Charles Frederick Adam, Jr., D.P.M., originally of East Liverpool, Ohio, entered into rest after an extended illness on May 17th, the Lord's Day, at Pepper Hill Nursing Home in Aiken, S.C. Dr. Adam is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Ruth Read Adam; a daughter, Lynn Adam Cofer-Chase (Charles Chase) of Winfield, Ill.; a grandson, Stewart Adam Cofer of London, England; a brother, Thomas Albert Adam (Joan) of Wilmington, N.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. After attending Mount Union College, he completed his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at Ohio College of Podiatry in Cleveland, Ohio. After several years in private practice in Augusta, he joined Schering Pharmaceuticals where he enjoyed his work with Augusta area physicians. After retiring from Schering-Plough, he returned to private practice in Augusta before full retirement. Fred and his wife both lived and worked in Augusta, Ga. for many years before retiring in South Carolina and joining Graniteville First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee, soloist, choir member and active member of the tape ministry outreach team. He gave of himself - to his church, his family, and his friends. Even as he departed this life he continued giving as he gave his body to the Medical College of Georgia in hopes of furthering research that will help others. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 22nd at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary of Graniteville First Baptist Church. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall of the church after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial gifts in his honor be given to the Alzheimer's Association, Regency Hospice of Aiken, or Graniteville First Baptist Church.
