Aiken police looking for man in shooting

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday it is looking for Bradley Danley, 19, of Dallas Circle in Aiken, in connection with Monday's shooting of a man outside a home.

John H. Anthony, 57, was shot as he sat on a front porch on T&S Drive near Reynolds Pond Road, according to the sheriff's office. Aiken Coroner Tim Carlton said Mr. Anthony had injuries to his upper and lower torso and a severe head wound.

SUV accident halts Wheeler Road traffic

Morning rush-hour traffic on Wheeler Road at Interstate 20 was backed up for nearly an hour Tuesday after two sport utility vehicles collided.

The crash occurred shortly before 8 a.m. when Demonsha Burns, 26, of Martinez, driving a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban north on Wheeler Road, hit the driver's side door of a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Amy Orvin, 39, of Trenton, S.C., as Mrs. Orvin left the I-20 westbound off-ramp, said Columbia County sheriff's Deputy Greg Kernaghan.

Witnesses said the Trailblazer flipped and landed in the center median with Mrs. Orvin trapped inside. It took nearly 30 minutes for Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue and Gold Cross emergency workers to cut the roof from the vehicle to get her out.

MCG spokeswoman Denise Parrish said Mrs. Orvin was in serious condition Tuesday night.

Ms. Burns was charged with running a red light, Deputy Kernaghan said.

Augusta man robbed in store's parking lot

An Augusta man told police he was robbed in the parking lot of Best Buy on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim said he was standing by his Land Rover when a gun-wielding man with a blue bandanna over his face ordered him inside the car, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report.

The man stole the victim's phone and wallet, then told him to get out of the vehicle, the report said.

The gunman then fled in a white Ford Crown Victoria, the report said.

A 17-year-old Augusta boy was hit by a car while crossing at Broad and Fifth streets Tuesday, police said.

The boy, whose name was not released, was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

Richmond County sheriff's Cpl. Russell Schaffer said he didn't know how serious the injuries were and that the teen could face charges for improperly crossing the intersection.
