AUGUSTA, Ga. - Nancy Messina, 71, entered into rest Sunday, March 17, 2009, at University Hospital. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, today, at 2:00 P.M., at the Christ Unity Church with the Reverend Donald C. Hancock officiating. Mrs. Messina, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Gill Diskin, was a native of the Bronx, NY, but had made Augusta her home for past fifteen years. She was a volunteer for the Democaratic Party and also for Interfaith. She had worked as a hairdresser at Washington Commons and at Ryan's Haircare. Her daughters agreed that she was the 'Rock' of her family. Survivors include her daughters, Lisa Brewster of Evans, Terry Pace of Martinez, Debbie Messina of Augusta and Joann Ross of Tampa, FL; four grandchildren, Tommy and Michael Brewster and Daniel and Maggie Pace; a sister-in-law, Teresa Messina of Barbados; dear friend, Cathi Carley of Scarsdale, NY; as well as many other close friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Christ Unity Church, 2301 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
