Vets deserve our continuing thanks

The constant bombardment of bad news, especially about our economy, has many forgetting how truly blessed America still is.

These blessings are afforded to us by many factors, especially our Constitution with its Bill of Rights. However, the Constitution is merely a piece of paper without the sweat and sacrifice of American veterans. In their honor, and memory, here is my Bill of Thanks.

For the freedom to speak my mind, however unpopular my view may be, thank you American veterans! For the freedom to worship God in whatever way I see fit, thank you American veterans! For the freedom to protect myself and my family from those who do us harm, thank you American veterans! For the right to gather with others and call our government a bunch of wasteful, irresponsible fools without fear of retribution, thank you American veterans!

We have these and so many other freedom-based rights. But we should remember that freedom itself is not a right, but a privilege. This coming Memorial Day, and every day, remember the real reason we can enjoy freedom: our American veterans. My thanks to all American veterans, past and present. May God bless you now and always!

Well said, Mr. Kimbrough. Unfortunately, I believe that to many Americans, Memorial Day has become just another 3 day weekend for folks to recreate, raise hell, and wake up on a Tuesday morning often in no condition to perform an honest day's work. In our "modern" self-centered society we all too often forget that, by virtue of those that have made the ultimate sacrifice in the many wars America has engaged in since the founding of this great nation, we are still able to enjoy the freedoms they gave their lives to preserve. Please, folks, take more than just a fleeting moment to remember the fallen American warriors that rest today in the "Flanders Fields" where poppies bloom in the soil of lands at home and abroad. And remember, we also have a day set aside to honor the survivors of all of the wars in which they fought in order to preserve the same American freedoms; namely: Veterans Day, 11/11/09. GGpap

In the wake of Obama apologizing for America while in Europe, please remember that veterans of this land SAVED that continent at least twice in the last century with their sweat and blood. On this US Memorial Day they should remember our veterans self-sacrifice instead of what they perceive as America's arrogance. America has every right to tell them what they need to do since they have made a mess of it so many times. We paid for the right to do it in blood.

Well written, thanks.

Great article. Thank GOD for every Veteran that has ever served our great nation.

If our govt wants to "bail out" people, then why not help the families of soldiers that were killed or wounded in defending our nation? Too soon these American Heroes are forgotten.

What would all of us do without the brave men and women who have served our country in every generation since our birth? GOD Bless All Past And Future Veterans!
