BYRON, Ga. - Dr. Lawrence Franklin Kirk Sr., 66, died Saturday, May 16, 2009. Services will be held at 2P.M. on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Byron Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Milwood, Rev. Max Patterson and Rev. Jesse Fortson officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Born in Marietta, Dr. Kirk was the retired pastor of Byron Baptist Church, after 21 years of service. He had pastored at Appalachee Baptist Church in Appalachee, at Harmony Baptist Church in Monroe, at Zion Hill Baptist in Buford, at Calvary Baptist Church in Meridian, MS, and at Calvary Baptist Church in Augusta. He was the former moderator of the Rehoboth Baptist Association and served on various committees within the association. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sherrow Herrington Kirk of Byron; their children, Desiree and William Cosden of Augusta, Dr. Lawrence F. and Gina Kirk Jr. of Byron, Thomas Standberry and Tiffany Kirk of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Nichole Cosden, Starace Cosden, Noelle Cosden, Megan Kirk, Brittany Kirk, Kaitlyn Kirk, Lawrence F. "Lance" Kirk III, and McCain Kirk; his mother, Janette Orr Kirk of Kennesaw; a brother, Stan and Sheri Kirk of Kennesaw; and his biological father, Thomas Vernon of Villa Rica. He is preceded in death by his father, Major C. S. Kirk. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, May 18, 2009 in the sanctuary at Byron Baptist Church. Donations may be made to Byron Baptist Church, P.O. Box 130, Byron, GA 31008. All deacons at Byron Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
