Has Ninth Amendment been forgotten?

"The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."

Everywhere I turn people are saying that they have their rights. Yes, but so does everyone else, and according to the Ninth Amendment your rights are no more important then the rights of others. Yes, I have freedom of speech, which allows me to write this letter without fear of getting punished by the government. But I cannot use that freedom to force The Augusta Chronicle to print it; they do it on their own, because either they like it or feel that at least some of the people who buy their paper will like it.

A few years ago a comic strip was taken out of many newspapers because the people who were buying the papers said they were going to cancel their subscriptions if the papers continued to run it. Some said that the papers were violating the comic's freedom of speech, but totally ignoring the fact the papers, and the people who purchased them, had the right to freedom of speech as well. ...

A musical group a few years ago said some pretty nasty things, and some of their former fans decided they would destroy CDs that they had purchased in protest. Some believed this was violating the band's freedom of speech; they did not go to jail, so their rights were not violated. If the people restricted their CD burning to CDs that they personally owned, they had the right to freedom of speech as well.

If we continue allowing certain people to interpret the Bill of Rights in a way that favors them and only them, it will not be long before our Constitution gives us no more freedom them the Soviet Union had decades ago. Even communists had the right to be Stalin's version of politically correct.

Wanda, your point is well taken, but as grouse made clear, the shallow don't have the ability to understand what you've written. One mans rights are no more and no less than another mans rights. It's the lack of understanding concerning rights that makes half of American voters so easily manipulated.

The CommunistPartyUSA has outlined the changes needed to make America equal and just, and they supported Obama because of their hope and belief he will bring equality and justice to our government. Obama is on the right path and hopefully he will address the errors and flaws in the constitution he has spoken about so eloquently.

It's not half anymore, either, as you and your ilk are thankfully marginalizing yourselves daily. Wanda, like Grouse asks, what exactly are you trying to say? It works both ways. If I wanted to read a comic I enjoyed, but the newspaper removed it because it offended some subscribers (who merely had to not read it if it offended them), then I can exercise my right to not buy the paper as well. It's the subscribers demanding the removal that don't get it. You want to destroy a CD by an artist you don't agree with? Go ahead, it's your dime. Does that give an industry the right to try to destroy their career? Everyone has the right to their own opinion and the ability to speak their mind. Some of the more arrogant among us, such as the aforementioned PiousThomas, exercise theirs by thinking they are better than everyone else and crowing about it incessantly, while the more enlightened recognize that everyone does indeed have the same rights as each other and should be actually entitled to them. Where do you fall along that scale?

Aren't the people who interpret the Bill of Rights called the Supreme Court? And Isn't that an appointed group? And wern't the majority appointed by CONservative presidents? Now the question is if they are appointed for life, how do you remove them? The answer is you can't, period.

disssman....Supreme Court justices can be removed by being impeached by Congress so your lack of knowledge is showing, period. So , if you Dems think you can prove where any member of the current court has done something illegal in the performance of his duties, then now is your chance since you are in control. Actually, the court has had a perfect balance for quite a while now with 4 liberals, 4 conservatives, and 1 unpredictable swing vote so I don't see your complaint about the conservative court as being very valid. I am sure you would be more happy with a liberal majority because they tend to ignore the Constitution and make decisions based on liberal philosophy. The good news about any Supreme Court decision, as with any program enacted by Congress, is that it can be struck down or eliminated by the next Court or Congress when the worm has turned, as it always does.

The founders of our nation were afraid of one thing more than any other... government having too much power! Remember, they escaped from the tyranny of an oppressive and controlling government when they established this nation. They fought and died for it, and now we are letting these same freedoms they fought for slip away little by little, without a second thought.

OT, You are Correct and thank you for your pointing that out. They should also clamor against a federal system that would allot funds unto the states in times of need by forcing them (the states) into subjugation unto that System for to recieve those "timely"allocations. But such is the "norm" in seething liberal overtures.
