FLORENCE, S.C. - Robert "Bob" Madison Collins, 89, of Florence, died Friday, May 15, 2009 at a local health care facility after an illness. Mr. Collins was born in Athens, GA, a son of the late Charles and Katherine Collins. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and retired in 1983 from the Railroad. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a member of the Church Choir, and a member of the Senior Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Collins is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marian Sweat Collins; a brother; and two sisters. Surviving are his wife of twelve years, Ruth Eden White Collins of the home; three children, Robert Madison (Mary) Collins, Jr. of El Cajon, CA, Kathy (Kim) Stroud of Florence; Sheryl (Ken) Jones of Pamplico; two step-children, Judy (Max) Cantey of Florence and Cara (Marty) Bluford of Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren, Rob Collins and Tama McGee both of Atlanta, Jennifer Williams of Bluffton, Stacey Watts and William Stroud both of Florence, Chris Filyaw of Aiken, Steve Filyaw of Evergreen, David Powell of Myrtle Beach; five step- grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in the Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, GA directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Calvary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the services.
