Day at the museum

The Music at the Morris Concert Series will kick off with a performance by John Kolbeck at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Morris Museum of Art's auditorium stage. The concert is free. For more information, call (706) 724-7501.

Saying goodbye

A Wrecking Ball Drop-In will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Garrett Elementary School, 1100 Eisenhower Drive.

The public is invited to visit the school and see former teachers, administrators and classmates one last time before the building is torn down. Walk through the halls, look at past class pictures and see the plans for the new school.

An All-Augusta Community Canal Cleanup will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Sacred Heart Cultural Center, 1301 Greene St.

All Augustans and civic organizations are invited to help out in this city-beautifying community service opportunity.

Volunteers are urged to bring work gloves, water and sunscreen.

Going back in time

Archaeology Day will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at the 1797 Ezekiel Harris House, 1822 Broad St.

The free event will include artifact displays, primitive-weapon demonstrations and tours of the house.

Driving essentials

The Georgia Department of Driver Services has announced that students needing to test for an instructional permit or driver's license during summer vacation should obtain a DDS Certificate of Attendance Form from their school administration before the end of the school year.

Also, students planning for an on-the-road test will need a Georgia Alcohol Drug Awareness Program certificate of completion.

DDS Certificate of Attendance Forms must be signed and notarized from the student's school and presented at the time of applying for a permit or Class D driver's license.

Certificate of Attendance Forms issued in May will be accepted until Sept. 30.

Essay competition

The Fort Gordon Sergeants Major Association is holding a scholarship award essay competition through June 30.

High school seniors interested in competing for the scholarship can obtain a packet from Army Community Services, Room 224, Darling Hall, on Chamberlain Avenue, or visit www.sergeantsmajor.com and click on essay competition.

Applicants must be high school seniors but do not have to be affiliated with the military.

Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, June 30.
