Celebrates 100th
Mary Wallace celebrated her 100th birthday during a party held in her honor March 14 at Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Wallace was born March 12, 1909, in Burke County.
She taught in a rural elementary school before becoming an insurance agent in Augusta.
Congratulatory messages from Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver and Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue were presented at the celebration.
Student honored
Courtney Gates , a senior at Paine College, has been named a 2009 Charles B. Rangel international affairs fellow by the Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program at Howard University, Washington, D.C.
Win gold medals
McKenna Carlisle and Jack Owen , eighth-grade pupils at Episcopal Day School, have won gold medals for excellent performance on the 2009 National Spanish Examinations.

- Air Force Airman Steven S. McCray, a 2004 graduate of Butler High School and son of Sharon Gresham, of Augusta, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.
- Army Pvt. Creighton L. Bristol , a 2004 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia.
- Army Reserve Spec. Travis K. Stewart , a 1993 graduate of Westside High School and son of Dozell and JoAnn Stewart, of Augusta, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson.
- Army Pvt. Warren K. Collins Jr. , a 2008 graduate of Cross Creek High School and son of Warren Collins and Elaine Cooper, of Augusta, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson.
- Army Pvt. Joseph S. Watson , a 2003 graduate of Cross Creek High School and son of Gerald Hill, of Hephzibah, and Joseph Watson, of Fayetteville, N.C., has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson.
