Two talented entertainers are performing this weekend at the Country Club night spot on Washington Road: Area-reared Eric Lee Beddingfield performs Friday night and fiddling singer Natalie Stovall on Saturday.
Mr. Beddingfield and his popular country rock band have a large following from their performances across the nation, ranging from small-town roadhouses to the International Dairy Convention in Madison, Wis.
He grew up in Dearing, Ga., and earned a degree in business from Georgia Southern University, where he established his reputation as an energetic stage performer with his County Line band.
Ms. Stovall, a native of Columbia, Tenn., began playing the fiddle at age 4, and by 10 was performing regularly in the Kid's Club Show at the Opryland theme park in Nashville, Tenn.
She graduated in 2004 from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she had formed a band called Green Line South.
She is promoting Late Night Conversations , her second independent CD.
You can listedn to her at www.myspace.com/nataliestovall . She also writes her lively blog at nataliestovall.blogspot.com/.
Ms. Stovall is set to perform at Fort Gordon on June 6 and at the Live After Five concert series in Greenwood, S.C., on June 18.
CONGRATULATIONS, CHRIS: I became a fan of Chris Goss in 2002 when he competed in an Elvis tribute artist contest. He was amazing then as a vocalist and entertainer and has continued to grow.
I never knew until last weekend that he suffered from both dyslexia and dysgraphia, which are deficiencies in his ability to read and write. On Saturday, he became the first student in Augusta State University history to give the commencement address and graduated as class valedictorian.
He told me in 2004 when he was getting ready to play the lead role of Curley in Augusta Christian School's production of Oklahoma! , "I've always liked to do what I'm passionate about and that's '50s and '60s rock 'n' roll. I took classical piano lessons for eight years, but I played Jerry Lee Lewis' songs at the recitals."
