A former NFL player who returned home to start his own businesses did not show up for a hearing in bankruptcy court Wednesday.
Without Arthur Marshall or a representative of Custom Contractors or Real Estate and Property Management Group, the bankruptcy trustee had to continue the hearing.
Mr. Marshall, a standout football player for Hephzibah High School and the University of Georgia, filed for bankruptcy Aug. 28. His Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition, which would mean reorganization of his debt load and repayments, was converted into Chapter 7, a liquidation bankruptcy.
Mr. Marshall listed about $11 million in debts.
In addition to the bankruptcy, a series of lawsuits have been filed against Mr. Marshall by creditors, and federal agents removed business documents and computers from his South Belair Road office last month.
Mr. Marshall is also accused of fraud by the American Legion Post where his father was a member. The post claims he cheated members out of $77,136, according to an earlier report in The Augusta Chronicle .
Mr. Marshall played for the Denver Broncos and New York Giants in the 1990s. During his five-year professional career he caught 87 passes for 1,267 yards and scored four touchdowns.

There is never a good reason to make that much money and end up with that much debt. He must have gotten some bad advice along the way or just wanted to live beyond his means. A simple Dave Ramsey course would have prevented all of that.
Money is very easy for the Lord to get to us so he can recover with a trust in God and not man.
He is a crook and has been that way for years. I'm glad he finally got caught. I guess what my Momma always told me is true! What goes around comes around and its finally gettin him!!! He always thought because he was an Ex pro football player he was a big shot. I saw through him right from the start and never did any dealings with him. I hope he gets whats coming to him, for stealing from people who have worked hard.
How can you steal from Veterans and not feel guilty? He has to answer to himself on Judgement day!!
Heeeere's justus. Just because he might be a minority, he understands the court system? His attempt to seek justice? Geez, the guys filing bankruptcy, after cheating the American Legion. We're talking civil action, not criminal (yet). But "We" understood what you weren't trying to say. Shot yourself in the foot, AGAIN.
"death ears"....really?
If one is not proficient in grammar, one should keep a dictionary handy, just to prevent being perceived as ignorant. But, "death ears" would fall in the same category as "deaf ears", as neither would be able to hear you. However, one must seek "advice", in order to be "advised".
