Augusta State's golfers enter postseason play with 2008 on their mind.
Last year, the Jaguars were a No. 17 seed in the East Regional. Augusta State placed second, advancing to the national championships for the first time in three years.
"Our attitude is like last year," Jaguars golf coach Josh Gregory said. "We're trying to win this thing."
Augusta State tees off at 9:20 a.m. today in the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional at Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.
Augusta State is one of 14 teams competing in the 54-hole event. The top five squads will advance to the NCAA Division I Championships.
The Jaguars, ranked No. 33 in the latest Golfweek poll, are the seventh seed.
"We know we're better than a No. 7 seed," Gregory said. "We just have to go out and prove it."
Augusta State has been one of the nation's hottest teams the past two months. In March, the Jaguars won the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. Less than a week later, the Jaguars captured their home event at Forest Hills Golf Club.
Augusta State also finished fifth in the rain-shortened Cavalier Classic in late April.
"Having won a couple of tournaments this spring, I think we've proven we can play with anybody in the country," Gregory said.
The Jaguars are led by sophomore Henrik Nor-lander, a Palmer Cup selection who owns a team-best 71.71 stroke average and five top-10 finishes. Senior Janne Kaske, who posted a win and a tie for third in the past three events, holds a 72.57 average.
Freshman Taylor Floyd (72.63) won the Augusta State Invitational. Junior Jake Amos (72.71) owns four top-20 finishes. Sophomore Carter Newman (74.16), of Evans, rounds out the starting five.
In last year's regional, Norlander posted a third-place individual showing, while Amos tied for 65th.
"It helps with them going through that process last year," Gregory said. "And sometimes, it's not bad to a have a couple of guys who don't know the magnitude of playing in an NCAA Regional."
