CAL THOMAS

STATS: 17, Evans High School junior

WHAT: French language fan, bassoonist

HIS STORY: Cal, a member of the French Honors Society and French Club, often greets other students with phrases such as "Bonjour" or "Ça va?"

After listening to a bassoon concerto played at his church, Cal became enchanted by the bassoon.

"I was enthralled by such a unique and beautiful instrument."

He has been playing for seven years and has been accepted into district and all state band several times. This year he was chosen for the Governor's Honors Program.

Cal also enjoys playing piano and tuba.

"If I'm having a bad day, music is a way that I can sort out my feelings and emotions," he said.
