SUMTER, S.C. - Alva Eugene Henry, Jr., 74, husband of Joyce P. Henry, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at a local nursing facility. Born in Lyons, GA, he was the son of the late Alva Milton Henry and the late Ettie Spivey Henry. Mr. Henry was a member of Bethesda Church of God and was retired from the US Army National Guard. He was a pilot for 48 years and was a FAA Pilot Examiner for the South Carolina Flight Standards District Office for 28 years. He was also employed by DuPont for 14 years and was a civil service employee for the Shaw Air Force Base Aerial Club for 13 years. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include three daughters, Genia Geddings and Sonia Lee (Billy) both of Sumter, and Faith Storey (Jim) of Holly Springs, GA; four grandchildren, Karen Geddings, Mark Lee, Justin Storey, and Jacob Storey; and two sisters, Carol Albright (Ron) of Fayetteville, GA and Grace Stanek (Bob) of Macon, GA. Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Al Sims officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Tracy's Camp, Inc., P.O. Box 463, Pinewood, S.C. 29125.
