Jaguars ousted in semis

North Georgia defeated Augusta State 12-11 on Sunday in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

The Jaguars came back from a 10-5 deficit and tied the game with two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh. But Augusta State allowed two runs in the top of the ninth.

After a short delay because of lightning, Augusta State junior right fielder Shannon Wilkerson, the Peach Belt's Player of the Year, slammed his third home run of the game -- a solo shot to pull the Jaguars within one with one out. It was the only hit the Jaguars got in the inning.

Wilkerson led Augusta State with a 4-for-5 effort from the plate with five runs and four RBI. The team ends its season at 26-31.

The Saints (34-23) advanced to the championship game Sunday night, which Francis Marion won 4-1.
