Radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh signed an eight-year, $400 million contract in 2008 with Clear Channel Communications! In terms even I can understand, that's $50 million a year -- not to mention tens of millions more in endless endorsements.
I've just got to ask: Why on God's green Earth does he make so much money? Yes, I realize Limbaugh is the de facto Führer of the Republican Party. Yet, as far as I can tell, he's making well over half-a-billion dollars the next eight years for doing nothing more than always being wrong.
Didn't Limbaugh predict the invasion of Iraq would be smooth sailing? Didn't Limbaugh parrot Bush every time he said, "The fundamentals of the economy are strong" -- all the way up to and over the economic collapse cliff, in September 2008? In January 2009, didn't Limbaugh predict the apocalypse if President Obama's economic plans were passed by the majority-Democrat Congress?
Then, on May 5, didn't Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, a Republican, predict the economy would be out of recession by fall 2009? Jobless claims are dropping. Retail sales are improving. Thus, the stock market has been positive the past two months.
So, where's this apocalypse we were all dying for?
I'm sorry, but as the rational human being bank-rolling him, I would absolutely have to know that Limbaugh has been right about one, single, teensy-weensy thing in order to have completely justified his $400-million-plus goldmine jackpot.
Jealous? You bet your sweet, sweet apple I am! Hey, I'm wrong all the time, too. Quick -- someone write me a check for $400 million and I'll be as wrong as you want for as long as you want. Heck, I'll even go one better. I'll be wrong and over the moon to get paid a measly 1 percent of that amount for my magnificently selfless services.

When I read the title of your LTE I knew you were an idiot. Limbaugh doesn't get paid to be right or wrong. He doesn't get paid to be the 'de facto' leader of the Republican party as you call it. He gets paid to be an entertainer. If he didn't perform as an entertainer, which by his ratings he obviously does, he wouldn't get paid $400 million dollars. He gets paid to compel listeners to listen to him so they will hear the advertisements that run during his show. He does that extremely well. He's no different than a star quarterback in the NFL making millions, people will pay to see a good QB play football.Paying him $400 million dollars was a business decision based on facts, but I wouldn't expect someone that has this shallow level of thinking to understand that.

Limbaugh commands the big bucks for the same reason Brad and Angelina do and for the same reason Tom Hanks does. He has a product that the fans like and are willing to pay for. Every product that advertises on his show becomes an instant national best seller. It would be safe to say Limbaugh is the antithesis of the liberal talk show host. Limbaugh has been proven to be right 99% of the time and he has over 20million listeners EVERY week. He wouldn't get the big bucks if he wasn't a proven product. Sad little leftie. Watch CNN, they'll tell you what to write in your next letter, too.

This guy is the spokesman for the angry white male and gets support by, the people that sponsor his show are non-minority, the markets that play his show are non-minority, and the people that listen are not minorities, so that market is his cheerleaders. The problem is, his ratings are overrated and his rating don't translate into votes, in fact it's just the opposite. His show compares to Wallace in the schools doors hollaring his famous words, but Limbaugh gets rich pandering to closet racist. The airwaves are suppose to belong to the "public" (of course, "they" have no minority views on the airwaves) and again, yap, yap, yap, about how great a nation, but the "public airwave belong to the public" statement is another Great Lie. So yes, some people can go on & on about the nation being great, which keeps the blinders on, the people ignorant, and this guy's pockets fat. Limbaugh and his fellow haters will soon recognize their ignorance, recognize the political reality, recognize the successful leadership of the president which will benefit the entire country. And being paid to talk on the radio is not a job, it's a scheme, just like selling human beings for profit.

i know how to change stations on the radio so i don't have to listen to him. but some people do. I could care less what they pay him and they pay good money to advertise with him so he sells products.. make it while you can i say.. at least he is not robbing banks or selling drugs for a living ..

Limbaugh is an entertainer and very good at what he does. No different than Stern, O'Reily, Maddow, Hannity, etc. Each has a nitch audience and either appeals to a large market or a smaller nitch market. If some fool wants to pay one of these talking heads millions of dollars to spew their babble more power to the entertainer. Its called the American Way. While Rush appeals primarily to whites and males in particular, his message has always been about limiting the scope of government involvement, especially in social programs. The problem many liberals have with him is not his conservative nature, but rather his penchant for being a Republican spokesman. During the Bush years he lost much of his conservative credentials because of his endless support for Republican policies.

What is the 'product' that he is selling? Some say it is the truth. The truth should be free.
