In honor society

Derrick L. Umansky , a 2005 graduate of Westside High School and son of Dr. and Mrs. Warren Umansky, of Augusta, has been initiated into the Alpha chapter of Phi Beta Kappa honor society at the University of Georgia, Athens.

School gets award

The Nutrition Advisory Council at McBean Elementary was recognized at the Georgia School Nutrition conference in Athens and awarded third place in the state for the quality of its program. The council is led by second-grade teacher Alice Norman and Susan Stephens, the school nutrition manager.

Named Gates scholar

Shreya Desai , a senior at Westside High School, has been named a 2009 Gates Millennium Scholar.

Rowing scholarship

AshleyAnne McKinne y , a student at John S. Davidson Fine Arts High School, has been awarded a rowing scholarship to Duke University, Durham, N.C.

High school scholar

Austin L. Schoultz , of Augusta, a ninth-grade student at the Academy of Richmond County, has been named a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
