Fulton County, jailers accused of obstruction

ATLANTA - Two more Fulton County jail officers were arrested Monday on charges of filing a false report, making false statements to federal agents and obstruction of justice.

FBI agents arrested Derontay Aanton Langford, 34, of Fairburn and Mitnee Markette Jones, 46, of Atlanta.

They are accused of omitting material information regarding an encounter with a mentally ill inmate, Richard Glasco, who died in custody on March 18, 2008.

Langford and Jones appeared separately before U.S. Magistrate Judge C. Christopher Hagy hours after their arrests and pleaded not guilty. Each was released on $10,000 bond.

A message left with their attorney was not immediately returned Monday.

U.S. Attorney David E. Nahmias said the investigation into the suspicious death of the inmate is continuing, as well as other incidents involving alleged unreasonable use of force against inmates.

"This investigation is far from over," Fulton County Sheriff Ted Jackson said.

The indictment unsealed Monday charges that Langford and Jones aided and abetted one another and former county jail detention officer Curtis Jerome Brown Jr. in engaging in misleading conduct omitting material information in the death of Glasco. Brown was indicted in the case last October.

The complaint said Brown and two other staff members, now identified as Langford and Jones, allegedly entered the cell and engaged in a physical altercation with the inmate, who was left on the floor when the three left the cell. The inmate was later transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Were these officers given vacation (OOPS! suspended with pay) for being charged with a crime also?

Now where is justus4? I know he wouldn't approve of his peeps Derontay & Markette, using their positions as "cops" to brutally kill an inmate. Unless his peeps are a minority like him & the victim is another color.

Derontay and Mitnee were destined to a life of deceit when their mothers gave them those awful names.
