SC prison on lockdown since last week
COLUMBIA, S.C. - A South Carolina maximum security prison has been on lockdown for nearly a week as authorities investigate a threat.
Corrections Department spokesman Josh Gelinas said Monday that inmates at the Broad River Correctional Institution aren't allowed see visitors or leave their cells during the lockdown.
He refused to provide details on the threats, claiming that the information could get back to inmates.
The 1,500-inmate prison has been on lockdown since last Wednesday.
Authorities say lockdowns are applied when there are claims that inmate, staff or public safety could be in jeopardy.
Amusement Park renames Led Zeppelin coaster
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Led Zeppelin roller coaster which played "Whole Lotta Love" at the old Hard Rock Park has been renamed but will still play a whole lotta music.
Freestyle Music Park on Monday said the coaster is now called "The Time Machine" and the 1,200-watt sound system in each car will play hits from the 1960s through the present day.
The ride has five different soundtracks so repeat riders can have a different experience on the coaster which climbs 155 feet into the air and reaches 65 mph.
The park reopens May 23, the Saturday before Memorial Day.
Hard Rock Park opened last year but closed in September when its owners filed for bankruptcy protection. FPI MB Entertainment bought it for $25 million and changed the name.
Homemade aircraft with 2 on board crashes in SC
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Authorities say a small, home-built plane with two people on board crashed in South Carolina, sending two people to the hospital.
State Department of Natural Resources spokesman Robert McCullough said the hang-glider topped "boat plane" took off from Lake Murray in Lexington County, flew for awhile, then crashed near Lexington. He did not know the names of the man and woman on board.
WIS-TV reported the two were taken to a local hospital. A call to the Lexington County Fire Department was not immediately returned.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the experimental aircraft crashed into a wooded area about 1:45 p.m. Monday. The agency is investigating what caused the crash.
A phone listing for the registered owner of the craft had been disconnected.
Darlington cuts prices on hot dogs, fries, water
DARLINGTON, S.C. - Darlington Raceway has already cut ticket prices. Now, track officials are slicing the cost to eat at Saturday night's Southern 500.
The track said Monday that a hot dog would go from $4 to $3, as would a bottle of water.
Ordering a hot dog and fries will drop from $7 to $5.
The track's concessionaire, Americrown, says it will also offer a kid's value meal that includes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a cookie, a chewy fruit snack and milk for $4.
In January, Darlington cut ticket prices by $10 for about 9,000 of its 62,000 seats.
Darlington president Chris Browning says the company wants fans to enjoy the Sprint Cup event without worrying about their wallets.
I see these sports venues cutting prices everywhere, ... so I gather they were price-goughing their fans all these years. I would love it if fans boycotted these criminal venues and make'em really hurt. Start with these concert tickets that cost over $30.00. These "Stars" will work for food if we make'em.
pofwe: I'm on board with your boycott!
