Recently, I received a letter from the Social Security Administration saying that I am to receive a $250, one-time disbursement check from the federal government. I also have received a letter telling me that my monthly withholding taxes from my military retirement allotment will be halved. However, I will still be taxed the full amount at the end of the year.
Hmmm. It sounds to me like "pay me now or pay me later!"
I know the government has no monies except what it collects on tax revenues. I don't want to pass these debts onto my grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Therefore, I've written a reply letter to the government, telling it to keep the $250, and I'm changing my Internal Revenue Tax W-4 withholding form to double my withholding in order to allow me to break even at the end of the tax year.
I suggest that we all do this or it will certainly be "pay me now or pay me later!"
