AUGUSTA, Ga. - Sumiko S. Hill, 80, entered into a peaceful rest on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Bellevue Memorial Garden Chapel, inurnment to follow. Mrs. Hill was a native of Japan where she found love and married Laney E. Hill who precedes her in death. As a child she was known as the most modern and happiest among her siblings. After moving to Augusta she worked in The Post Exchange at Fort Gordon. Sumiko had a kind and generous heart and cared for many of her friends during their illnesses. She was quite a "neat freak", according to her family, keeping everything impeccable. Her family did everything "Sumiko's way" to keep her satisfied. She was a longtime member of Sakura-Kai, a Japanese ladies group. Sumiko had a fond love for Karaoke and gardening. Mrs. Hill is survived by her sisters; Masae Yoshimura and Masuko Yamazaki of Japan, sister-in-law: Jo Ann Hill of Dudley, North Carolina, cousin; Ari Itoh of Japan, nephew: Reiko Umenaka of Japan, niece; Akira Yoshimura of Japan and friend; Yuko Kataoka.
