Retired: US Navy Augusta, Ga. - Gerald Claude Free, husband of Marian Mitchum Sweat Free, entered into rest on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2004 at 11:00 A.M., in the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Philip Burdette officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Perry Smith, Charles Fitzgerald, Tim Malin, Lloyd McCoy, Jan Williford, Larry York, Bob Freid and Larry Redd. Survivors include his son, Raymond G. Free and his wife, Rhonda of Slidell, LA; sister, Audrey McCoy of Augusta; grandson, Timothy L. Free; great-grandchild, Jalin R. Toler and step-grandson, Toler; step-son, Daniel Sweat and his wife, Janet; step-daughter, Sissy Morris and her husband, Steven; step-granddaughter, Jessica Morris; nephews, Lloyd McCoy and David McCoy; and a niece, Robin McCoy. Mr. Free was born in Rome, GA to the late Edgar and Hazel Haygood Free. He retired from the US Navy after 20 years and was a member of the Bible Deliverence Temple, Masonic Lodge 412 and Scottish Rite.
