Brown, who led by one entering the final round of the Snap Fitness Open, shot 1-over-par 73 to finish at 12-under 203, two shots behind winner Jhared Hack, at Cowans Ford Country Club.
Brown, who hadn't made a bogey through the first two rounds of the 54-hole event, made 11 consecutive pars Friday, but had three bogeys over his final seven holes. He had shot 65 at Cowans Ford in the opening round.
Hack, who was second entering the final round, shot 70 to finish at 201 and won $30,000. Brown earned $9,150, along with Chris Baker (69).
Frank Adams III shot 65, the low round of the day, to tie for second with Jess Daley (68) at 202.
Brown was one of seven golfers with local ties to make the cut.
Scott Parel (70) tied for 16th at 206; Matt Hendrix (70) tied for 32nd at 209; Kyle Bradley (71) tied for 40th at 210; Dane Burkhart (77) tied for 48th at 211; David Robinson (76) tied for 66th at 214 and Cortland Lowe (79) tied for 76th at 216.
NGA/HOOTERS TOUR: In McCormick, S.C., three players are tied for the lead after two rounds of the Savannah Lakes Village Classic at par-72 Monticello Golf Club.
Russell Knox, Matthew Rosenfeld and Andrew Dresser share the top spot at 9-under-par 135, one stroke ahead of five players.
Knox shot a tournament-low 64. Rosenfeld shot 68 and Dresser shot 69.
Swainsboro's Will Claxton shot 70 and made the cut on the number at 142. He is tied for 48th. Augusta's Emmett Turner missed the cut despite shooting 69. He finished at 144.
The third round is scheduled to begin today at 7:30 a.m. The leaders tee off at 9:10.
SOUTHERN CROSS: In Aiken, Aiken shot 5-over-par 218 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the 35th Southern Cross high school tournament at Palmetto Golf Club.
Defending champion Dutch Fork is second at 219 and Easley is third at 220.
Aiken is one of four local teams competing in the 24-team event.
South Aiken is tied for 11th at 235, North Augusta is 16th at 237 and Augusta Prep is tied for 20th at 242.
Hayden Garrett, of Easley, is the individual leader after shooting 3-under 68. Aiken's Hampton Jones is second at 70. South Aiken's Chandler Brazeal is one of eight players tied for sixth at 73.
