Some parks' pools will be closed this summer

Bobby Brown State Park near Elberton and A.H. Stephens in Crawfordville are among 11 parks where swimming pools will be closed this summer because of a lack of funds needed to make mandatory safety modifications, according to Georgia's State Parks & Historic Sites Division.

New federal regulations mandate specific pool drain and cover standards, but no funds are available to make those improvements, although three pools -- including the one at Magnolia Springs State Park near Millen -- will remain open under concession agreements.

State officials are contacting guests who already made overnight reservations at these parks, offering transfers or refunds.
