Story left out century's biggest evil

In The Augusta Chronicle's March 21 Your Faith section, church leaders were discussing "A world full of evil," with pictures of some past murderers, people possessed by demons, perhaps.

I was surprised that you left out the world's greatest murderer, Joseph Stalin, who took over the chairmanship of Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917.

During the 1920s and '30s, he directed the "Great Terror," and the communist purging, with well over 20 million victims. Stalin also killed the Polish Officer Corps and intelligentsia, which Russia finally admitted to 30 years later.

Churchill and Roosevelt called him "Uncle Joe" as wartime buddies in the 1940s, and then turned over 10 Central and Eastern European countries to Soviet dictatorships.

There is some interesting reading in Pat Buchanan's book on European 20th-century history. Today there is a new Russian official view that the Stalin era had something basically positive. Think about it!

According to an article in the Financial Times Dec. 28, older Russians have a nostalgia for the Stalin era: law and order (for those not persecuted).

History teaches many lessons if we would only learn from it. In 1875, Bismarck made this statement: "Preventive war is like committing suicide out of fear of death."

Good letter, Uncle Joe also starved millions in the Ukraine to force collectivization, order Russian soldiers to rape, loot and plunder as they entered German soil. Hitler was responsible for the deaths of 12 million people, Stalin was responsible for the death of over 20 million. The reason Russia was so ineffective when Germany attacked Russia dispite Russiahaving completed a hugh military build up was because Stalin had "purged" the military of it's most capable officers whom Stalin viewed as a threat to his power!

factually lenin was in charge after the revolution. thats what marxist do. they take power thru class warfare, slaughter the haves as enemy of the state, but then slaughter the have nots due to their uselessness. the parasites of society that have nothing to contribute are enslaved and starved or shot in the back of the head. they are "progressives". sound familiar?

Southernguy, the Frogs (French) don't mention all the heads they cut off during the French revolution, including most of the royalty and many who were accused of treason against the revolution. either. I don't want to hear chit out of the Europeans about how bad we Americans are

in spite of the unceasing efforts made by men to conceal this and to ascribe a different meaning to power, power is the application of a rope, a chain by which a person will be bound and dragged along, or of a whip, with which he will be flogged, or of a knife or an ax with which they will cut off his hands, feet, ears, head- an application of these means or the threat they will be used. thus it was in the time of nero and of ghenghis kahn and thus it is even now, in the most liberal of governments......

RE: "...church leaders were discussing "A world full of evil," with pictures of some past murderers, people possessed by demons, perhaps."" The irony of this statement is excruciating. Some of the most prolific murderers throughout history have been "church leaders," and the religious functionaries who willing followed their orders. Religious dogma, and the blind following of those who promote the dogma, has been, and continues to be, a primary source of brutality and bloodshed. -----"All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.
