This brings back many memories. I was the cadet company commander at Glenn Hills, and remember marching at this annual event. The only thing I regret is that my senior year pass-in-review was canceled due to rain that day. That day, my last JROTC combined military ball, and my last NJROTC award ceremony are things that I will never forget. Being an NJROTC cadet was better than being part of any sport or club. We actually mentored each other with the guidance of our instructors through the entire high school experience. Many of these kids won't join the military, but the comradery, self-confidence, and even the friendly rivalries among units will be with them for a lifetime, and make them good citizens. The big rivalry back then was between Glenn Hills and Westside because we were the only Navy JROTC units in the county. It ultimately extended to include Silver Bluff. We always competed against each other, but also had a mutual respect for each other off the drill field. It is good to see this continue.
