4 go to hospital after car crashes downtown

A multiple-vehicle crash in downtown Augusta left four people hospitalized Saturday afternoon.

A mother and her two children and the driver of another vehicle were admitted to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, said Richmond County sheriff's Cpl. Russell Schaffer.

None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, he said.

Police believe the driver of a Pontiac Grand Am ran a red light at Broad and 13th streets around 4 p.m. and was struck by an Acura Coupe heading west on Broad Street, Cpl. Schaffer said.

The Pontiac spun out of control and hit a Toyota Corolla going east on Broad Street. The Pontiac then struck a Mitsubishi Galant idling at 13th and Broad streets.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident, Cpl. Schaffer said.

I agree with dickworth1. Also I might add that living in apartments on Broad Street will eventually be the downfall of people renting there due to the noisy motorcycles with dual loud mufflers that stroll up/down Broad Street late at night (usually after bars close) and all the noisy people that stay on the sidewalks after closing hours continuing to party and fight and use loud noise and language. Certainly a determent for me. Folks considering living there must evaluate the nighttime noises that will keep them from sleeping/watching TV, etc. after 9-10pm. Even though the police try to keep it down, it appears fruitless.

dickworth1, imagine being a motorcycle rider here in Augusta. Sometimes I feel like I'm playing Russian Roulette.

The other thing that COULD help is to require the police to obey the laws (turn signals etc.)when THEY are just cruising. What a concept.

Dick: Maybe bringing up the fact will call attention to the stupidity of the drivers and the need to follow the laws.

Wow usually everyone is bashing the chronicle for no details. Today they tell the cause of the accident and still get a complaint. LOL

well I think

That's the nature of a complaint. One doesn't need a legit reason to make one. You can always make one up.

Boston93, we're having the same problem in the suburbs of Augusta. Noise 24/7, vulgar language, and so on. Wish I knew how to fix it.

FallingLeaves

I've never heard of Virginia College before last week. How long has it been a college?

There were several cars involved in an accident about 3:30am this morning at Lumpkin Road and Peach Orchard. Anyone know who was involved in that, and if there were any injuries?

humbleopinion

The reason the accident downtown was covered in such great detail should be obvious. It happened just a few hundred yards from the offices of the Chronicle and their lazy reporters didn't have far to go. There were MORE details in this minor story than there were in the story of the man run down by the wrecker driver in Martinez!
