Punished for her beliefs

We're not sure why political views play into the Miss USA pageant anyway. Why do beauty pageants feel the need to prove they're not about looks?

If that's the case, why don't a few Susan Boyles win?

But this is the course the pageants have taken -- and now it appears the Miss USA pageant has crossed yet another line by declaring some political (and religious) views to be incorrect. And that holders of those views are essentially disqualified.

It's clear from the reactions and writings of the pageant's judges that runner-up Miss California, Carrie Prejean, lost any chance of being crowned Miss USA when she answered a question about gay marriage by saying she opposed it.

"If I could have made her 51st runner-up, I would have," writes judge Alicia Jacobs in her blog. "As she continued to speak, I saw the crown move further and further away from her. When she finished, she looked strangely proud for a moment. Personally, I was stunned on several levels."

Jacobs goes on to wonder: Why didn't Miss California tailor her answer to the judges, when she knew they were pro-gay marriage?

Wow. We're stunned on several levels.

First, that a judge would actually suggest a contestant say what the judges want to hear, not what she really believes.

Second, that there is a "right" and a "wrong" answer to a question that involves a deeply personal matter of conscience.

There is no right or wrong answer to that query. It is a question of purely personal and spiritual conviction. For someone to be judged "incorrect" on such a matter is Orwellian, shocking and dangerous. It's an intellectual and ideological witch hunt.

Prejean says she thought it was more important to be biblically correct than politically correct, and that she doesn't regret her answer. "I was true to myself."

Good for her. But obviously, that can cost you dearly in today's society.

Carrie Prejean wasn't judged for her beauty and talent. She was arrested, tried and convicted by the far-left Thought Police.

How sad and frightening.

southernguy08 this made me

southernguy08 this made me laugh. I'm way too old to be jealous of her. And I believe I had a lot more fun in my youth than this poor girl. I got plenty of attention from boys, but I did not have to dye my hair, augment my chest, cap my teeth, spray on a tan or diet constantly to get it. And because my daddy wouldn't allow it, I wasn't out on the beach in that skimpy of a bathing suit. In those days it was enough to be simply 'nice-looking' and fun to be with. Us average girls didn't have to try to be beauty queens/porn stars to get a boy to like us. I actually feel sorry for girls nowadays with the pressure that's on them.
I never tried to hold myself up as some paragon of Christian virtue standing up for what I believed either. I was a typical teenager/twenty-something. My point is that Miss CA and her supporters can't have it both ways. Acting slutty and 'standing up for Christ' at the same time.

COMMONSENSE, I guess I'll

COMMONSENSE, I guess I'll have to take your word for your post, since I don't know you. You refer to yourself as an average girl. My question is, since you don't know Ms. California, how do you know how much fun she has had? You make the very judgement about her that you condemn her for to begin with. Since when is simply speaking your moral mind being a paragon of Christian virtue? Sorry, COMMONSENSE, you and your supporters can't have it both ways either. Nice try though. Glad I made you laugh. By contrast, your post is rather sad.

All I hear is "speaking her

All I hear is "speaking her mind." Since when is parroting "the way you were raised" speaking your mind? In fact most of you have no clue since you comment on the h-o-m-o-s-e-x-u-a-l "lifestyle" with the same authority (not) you do about creation. You've never actually thought about any of it, nor have you ever even known a gay person or a gay couple or paid any particular attention to what science has to offer. You just parrot what your parents or preacher rants about. Everything is black and white to you. You don't try to read the Bible in the rich context of the historical era in which it was written. I wouldn't be surprised if some of you have gay sons or daughters and you rejected them because you couldn't convert or 'cure' them. ONe more suicide or child on the street hustling. You're a hateful bunch and a sorry excuse for Christians or whatever you are.

southernguy, you are an idiot. I would have objected to a Muslim candidate demanding Israel to give up land. Just like I objected to what Miss CA said. I have a major beef with most organized religions out there, because they are trying to shove their beliefs on everyone against their will.

I agree, jc. Homophobia from

I agree, jc. Homophobia from people just like Miss California is the main reason why two middle-school aged boys committed suicide just weeks apart. It is also is the reason why Angie Zapata was murdered by Allen Andrade in Greeley, Colorado. Religious zealots should burn in HELL for what they have done to our nation.

Oh, give it a rest, Willis.

Oh, give it a rest, Willis. You obsess over the wrong targets, as per usual. Teaching that something is wrong and immoral is NOT THE SAME as commanding or suggesting for people to commit murder. If you weren't so stupid and malevolent you'd just be stupid. You really do have all the insight of a hammer.
