The owners of the area's Captain D's restaurants are one month away from breaking ground on a Cheddar's Casual Café on Walton Way Extension.
Mike Chumbley, chief operating officer for Macon-based C&P Restaurant Co., said this will be the company's fifth Cheddar's in Georgia.
Construction should begin in late May and the 8,200-square- foot restaurant should be open in October, he said.
Mr. Chumbley said a Cheddar's seats about 280 people. It will have more than 125 employees.
He said the company is going to buy 1.93 acres on Walton Way Extension, a deal brokered by Augusta development company Blanchard & Calhoun Commercial. The restaurant will be between the water tower and the new Queensborough National Bank & Trust branch.
Mr. Chumbley and his partner, Allen Peake, a state congressman, have the franchise rights to Georgia and part of the Florida panhandle. They started their first Cheddar's in Warner Robbins 10 years ago and have locations in Savannah, Columbus and Macon.
There are 60 Cheddar's restaurants throughout the Midwest and Southeast.
C&P Restaurant Co. runs the four Captain D's restaurants in the Augusta area.
