Augusta Service Co. planning June layoffs
Augusta Service Co. Inc. will lay off 28 employees in June, said Jack Richardson, the general manager of the east region for Austin Industrial, which supplies contract employees to manufacturing companies in the region.
The layoffs are related to DSM Chemicals North America Inc.'s announcement that it plans to cut 80 employees by June 30. Augusta Service, at 23 Columbia Nitrogen Road, provides maintenance services for DSM.
Augusta Service laid off 30 employees in February, citing economic conditions.
The company currently has 450 employees. Mr. Richardson said it hopes to "return to traditional levels" when production improves.
