After competing in the 113th Boston Marathon, Dr. Michael Rogers went out on the town Monday night for a celebratory meal.
"I'm going to try to find the biggest steak I can find," he said.
The 63-year-old crossed the finish line at 3:54:18 and placed 199th in the 60-64 age division. He received nothing for the high finish, but by breaking the four-hour mark he automatically qualified for the 2010 marathon.
Rogers and his daughter, Alison Andrews, both of Augusta, ran together the first 22 miles. Andrews, who gave birth to her third daughter 10 weeks ago, told her father she felt like she had a little left in her tank. He told her to go for it.
The 31-year-old Andrews, who said days ago she just wanted to finish, posted a time of 3:50:22. She shaved almost 15 minutes off her 2008 time, while her father improved his by more than 14 minutes.
"I think we'll keep doing this," Rogers said.
Aiken's Clayton Vaughters, 20, and Dr. William Porr, 28, of Grovetown, posted the fastest times of the local contingent. Vaughters checked in at 2:58:32 -- a 6:49 pace -- to finish 1,146th overall. Porr came in at 3:06:14, finishing 2,091th overall.
Jesse Thomas IV of Evans crossed the line at 3:24:17.
Heather Currier, of Martinez, posted 3:44:34. Janet Gallo, also of Martinez, broke the four-hour barrier (3:58:44), while Joseph Giron of Martinez checked in at 4:03:43.
Aiken's John McCowan crossed the line at 3:54:29. Tina Stutt of North Augusta finished with a time of 4:03:49.
