Officials clean up after chemical leak at plant
A chemical leak occurred Saturday afternoon at the International Paper Co. plant on Mike Padgett Highway.
The Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department and HAZMAT cleaned up the leak, which was possibly hydrogen sulfide, according to a fire department dispatcher.
The dispatcher didn't know whether anyone was injured by the leak, which was reported about 4:40 p.m.
Woman charged with theft from Wal-Mart
An Augusta woman was arrested and charged with shoplifting Friday night at Wal-Mart on Deans Bridge Road.
According to a Richmond County sheriff's report, Kawashi Shaqoya Blockett, 18, was caught with $64 worth of shoes in her purse.
When Wal-Mart security workers tried to apprehend her, she shot pepper spray into their eyes, the report states.
She was charged with one count of theft by shoplifting under $300 and two counts of simple battery.

Kawashi Shaqoya ??? Do they make these names up when they are still under the influence of delivery room drugs? I doubt seriously if this name could be traced back to ANY ethnic heritage so where do they get them? I guess I could be wrong. Maybe it's Swahili for "Thieving Little Heathen". If I were the HRO at a company and saw that name on an application it would be the first to go in the "run a criminal background check" pile.

Why make fun of someones culture? The names are put together from other family members. Its mostly the poorer blacks who do this no need to act like grade school kids. Its really racist to make these remarks. People have different cultures then others, yours are strange to. I am a conservative Christian, everyone is equal in the eyes of conservative philosophy. Racist Milton? I remember, very recently, an article written by an African American about the ridiculous African-American names. Most of these names have absolutely no meaning and cannot be traced to any African Heritage. They are simply made-up names that "Sound Ethnic." Look at a baby name book also. Names like La Shawna. It says: American name Shawna with La added to it. This should be the most embarrassing fact for other African Americans with real African names.

I have a student this year named Lil'Teishah Gellin (pronounced JA-LEEN). She's a deep critical thinker and A student (not an inflated A). Her composition abilites are extraordinary and her goal as a ninth-grader is to eventually attend Hampton University. However, I do fear for her future resume, should she not have the opportunity for a face-to-face interview.
I also make fun of white people that change the spelling of common names. Like naming your daughter Tina, but spelling it Tyna, or Chris and spelling it Kryse. Imagine having to correct everyone on the spelling of your retarded [filtered word] name.

Why name your child something noone can pronounce?? I mean being different is one thing, but these strange names are outrageous. I feel bad for the teachers who have to learn them all.

They could (and should) change their names... unless it turns out like John Pizzer did when he tried to change is name... the judged told him it was serious business to change your name.... and wanted to know what his name was. When told it was John Pizzer, the judge was totally in agreement to the name change, asking what the new name would be... John answered "William Pizzeri"!
