TV news bias extends just as deeply at CNN

  • Follow Letters

Regarding "Fox News bias is glaringly obvious" (April 16): Perhaps the letter writer should consider the left-leaning bias of CNN before blasting Fox News for its opinion.

CNN and Headline News are just as left-leaning as they can be, and will put a liberal spin trashing the conservatives every chance they get. There is truly no "fair and balanced" reporting out there.

The "Carter Attempt," if referring to President Carter's attempt to create home ownership, failed miserably. Carter started it, and every president since did nothing about it except allow it to grow and result in disaster -- and my grandchildren will be paying for it. So will the letter writer's.

Sarah Thomas, on your issue concerning the lack of fair and balanced news reporting on CNN, I agree with you whole heartedly. I would also add that there is no fair and balanced coverage of the news in any of the print and television media; period! On the second issue, Carter may indeed have started the housing mess we are in today but I'm sure it was fostered by a sincere desire to help folks achieve the American dream of home ownership. The intent was well meant, the situation today is obviously a disaster. We have to look elsewhere if we wish to place the blame where it really belongs. I would also point out that Carter left office 28 years ago and I feel certain that there are some folks out there that have a home today because of the Carter administration's hope for the betterment of the working men and woman in America. Therefore, I'd rather give him some credit for the good he may have accomplished in this case. GGpap

GGpap, of course the Carter effort was well intended. Most social subsidy efforts are. This one, the CRA, was on such a grand scale that it's effects are being felt today and like most social engineering efforts, it's disastrous. (kind of like his nationalized education effort). The snowball Carter started rolling had some additional efforts added to it to also help with home ownership until it got to the point where loans no longer needed collateral or proof of income to be granted. They had the guarantee of Fannie and Freddie.(with backing from taxpayer money) Whether the purpose for this social engineering was benevolence or vote buying, the result was today's disaster. There's plenty of legitimate blame to go around, but the root cause was needless government interference begun by Carter. I see today's president taking the exact same tack. I foresee almost the exact same result. The only difference being scale.

As far as bias goes, the American political system isn't perfect, but it's a damn sight better than everything else, so far. The same for FOX, it's not the perfect balance, but it's way better that the next best, except for those that like their news very biased and very filtered.

Sarah L. Thomas: CNN is far more balanced than FOX..I used to watch FOX exclusively and I got sick of the anchors trying to tell me what to think and how to react to their stories...But the truth is if someone likes FOX then good for them, if they like CNN or MSNBC good for them, who really cares, the truth is no network is totally balanced, it's really up to individuals to determine which network they like...

Motorman5039

pt: Carter created fair housing, not the Credit Default Swaps(CDS) that are the REAL cause of todays economic situation...If banks and financial lending institutions 30 years ago weren't zeroing out entire zip codes and denying anyone living those zip codes loans there wouldn't have been a need for government to interfere in housing and lending...Now I know you would like to look at a pixel in the picture and blame the entire situation on that one pixel, but the truth is Carter did what was necessary at the time, perfect no but necessary...The false perception that poor people caused this situation, but the truth is I know three people who make good money who are letting their homes go because they got super big houses...Matter of fact one lives in Cape Coral and knew he messed up buying a big expensive house before he even signed the contract..The desire to make money was the motive, the hope the market would continue to climb and the house could be turned was motive...Poor people don't buy houses to flip they buy them to live in and scratch out a living; however the banks created CDS to cover the risk, but the real risk was the people who bought McMansions like described above.

I got a co-worker that almost got caught up in defaulting on a home...He and family lived in Atlanta, he got a better career opportunity in Miami so he rented the Roswell home out and moved to Miami, bought a house in Miami and lived there 2 years, then got a better job opportunity back in Atlanta so he put the Miami house on the market and moved back to Atlanta and bought another house...Pssst: Dude, do you realize you have 3 houses???Now I know you are confident the couple renting will keep paying rent on time, and I know you are confident the Miami home will sell for a profit, but the reality is you are HOPING!!! Long story short the market went down and the Miami house sat, and sat, and sat, and sat (get my point)..Finally someone put an offer on it, but it was FAR less than what he paid for it...Ended up eating $50k on it, but luckily he didn't default on it...He told me one more month juggling 2 mortgages and he was going to let the Miami house go..Luckily the couple who were in the first home kept paying rent on time...They weren't rich, matter of fact they could qualify as lower middle class ($40k annum), but they paid on time...Guess income brackets don't make you smarter.

GGpap, for you to give Jimmy Carter credit for anything tells me you really don't have a clue and no credibility.

CH

There GGAP's typical lib reasoning for you. Sure, Carter was a spineless president who weakened our country...but he meant well and has a big heart. Forget about him letting our people rot in Iran as "hostages" for over a year. And MOTORMAN, if you really think that CNN is fair and balanced news, then please send me a postcard from Fantasyland because you obviously aren't in the real world! This network, along with CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, and CNBC, give a whole new meaning to the word "slant." And JUSTUS, do us all a favor and drop the "non-minority" rhetoric. It's the same old crap on a different day. I suppose the news on BET isn't slanted? By the way can you imagine a network calling itself White Entertainment Television? They'd never be allowed on the air!

shaglorious

Justus4: Again, I will ask you to comment on the blatant media bias of Jamie Foxx. Please, I want you to defend this.

TechLover

jusus: Making everything about race is getting old. There are plenty on these posts who make racist comments. Call them on it individually and don't just make blanket statements. As to the topic, yes CNN leans left. More so MSNBC. Neither have the audacity to claim to be "fair and balanced". Faux would have more credibility if they just came out and admit that they're far right wing.

HYPOCRITES 08

What the hell is this? Sound like Kindergartners. Your news source is more biased than my news source. Who gives a D--N?

HYPOCRITES 08

Where are the Bush is out of office people? Hell this lady went back almost 3 decades to criticize Carter.

TechLover

PT: Fuax is not the perfect balance? It has no balance. Still waiting on something more than "I've said it a lot of times" as proof for your comments yesterday. How about source and figures? Since the source is obviously right wing radio, or maybe someone on Faux,( since jack used the exact same wording yesderday) are you ashamed to admit it. How about just giving us the figures you used to make your claims. Strange, brotherx will post 50 times prove it, prove it..... if someone on the left makes a claim, he's strangely silent on this one.

STONEWALLJ1

Hippshiet, where did she criticize carter? She pointed out a fact. And yes, he did start the ball rolling as PT stated, which has directly led to the debacle we see today.

_SisterAbdullahX_

Techlover....how about YOU give examples of how Fox NEWS is unbalanced. Not the pundits, but the NEWS. We'll be waiting.

HYPOCRITES 08

Well jamespieceofshiet, why didn't your hero Bush do anything about it?

TechLover

james: Carter stopped redlining, where even if you could afford housing, you were denied a loan or insurance because of where you lived. You can thank the realtors, bankers, appraisers, mortgage brokers, etc, and their lobbyist for coming up with all the scams, tricks, credit swaps, etc that got us into this mess.

carcraft

The problem with many of these well intioned bills is that from little seeds mighty acorns grow. It takes time, Carter passed it, Clinton ramped it up and inforced it and Bush ignored or incouraged it. Bush and McCain did try to warn that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were in trouble starting about 3 years ago. Barney Frank, Maxine Waters etc blocked efforts to regulate the institutions and Raines and Johnson who finally flew it into the ground got hugh ( millions of dollars) in bonuses! Look at the war on poverty, we now have more un wed mothers on welfare, more single parent homes and more people being locked up. Good intentions!!!

TechLover

brotherx:You see any disclaimers?: The thoughts and opinions of this host do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Faux news" The "news" casters constantly editorialize with side comments, usually prompted by questions from the host sitting on the couch.. Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly, Cavuto always have what they call "news" on them. Believe it or not, I watch a variety of channels, not just keep the tv on one. How about asking PT for her info on where she said yesterday1 Obama doubled Bush's debt i 60 days (or 90 day she/he said both)2 Obama spent more than all presidents put together. That is since you're such a stickler for facts.

_SisterAbdullahX_

I see you can't, techlover. As I said NOT the pundits, but the NEWS. It seems the problem is that YOU can't tell the difference between news and commentary. That being said.....It's not Fox that is biased, it is your brain that is underdeveloped. At least we understand the problem now....... Can you name anyone who spent a Trillion dollars in 3 months?

HYPOCRITES 08

Chirp,chirp,chirp,chirp,chirp....................from PT.

_SisterAbdullahX_

Hypocrites....now you know how I feel when I ask people to back up what they say........which they NEVER do.

Grasshopper

MSNBC commentator guest on the oberman show said the Tea Party was a bunch of racist rednecks. Oberman didn;t deny it

_SisterAbdullahX_

Again, milton.....COMMENTATOR....not the news. People need to learn the difference.

Tujeez1

Hey Everyone, IF you want your news fair and balaned just come to the AC LTE section and read..... mind you bring your healthy dose of scepticism with you, some posters tend to exaggerate the obvious.....I do not view any news on television, except for the weather...and I watch the weather channel........but you have to avoid Jim Cantore, he leans heavily on his overly dramatic gloom and doom.....

Niko Mahs

Maybe Cantore needs to give more good weather instead of always going to tornadoes, hurricanes & floods! To me I think that CNN & MSNBC are biased in some instances. However, the key issue here is that they do not advertize that they are "Fair & Balanced". When that is your slogan, and you don't follow it then you appear to be incorrect in your broadcasting.

TechLover

brotherx: I see, Hannity, Beck, O'Reilly, Cavuto, Huckabee, E.D. Hill, Kilmeade, Doocy,Napolitano, Wright, Carlson, Gallagher, McCallum, Forbes, Shepard Smith, Barnes, etc are all commentators and have no news content. In that case it's not a news channel at all, it's a commentary channel with the occasional news blip. They should change the name to Faux Commentary Channel, We Comment You Decide.

imdstuf

Besides the credit default swaps that motor mentioned, there is the fact that the banks themselves were fudging numbers to give loans to people who did not qualify. The government never told the banks to lie and cheat to get people into homes. Also, it was under Republicans that oversight into such things dried up. There is plenty of blame to go around. I see Fox as right wing, MSNBC as left wing and CNN more down the middle. CNN's one reporter that Fox has been targeting because of how she acted at the tea party is just them trying to spin things. I do not think the reporter was outraged at the guy she questioned or the tea party itself, just the hyporcracy that Republicans and Fox were trying to make it seem like this was their idea when it was from people on all sides, and the fact that the Republicans that did participate would not have done so back when their bubba Bush was in office. Where as there were Democrats out there regardless of who is in office.

message

If you deem T.V. news station are bias;boycott their channel that mean low air time rating for bias news reporting channels eventual they will be taking off the air.
