Pirates are just plain terrorists

Pirates use terrorism and ruthlessness to carry out their objective, but the term "pirate" refers to a specific action in a specific location. They should be dealt with like they have throughout history. This method handles the situation until a new generation comes along and needs to be handled. Death to all pirates and the villages that spawn and support them. (I doubt this president has the testicular fortitude.)

Yeah, justus, let's dedicate man-hours and efforts to allegations of "hundreds of unsolved cases" where the alleged actors are all room temperature by now when we have these thug terrorists robbing and stealing NOW with no fear of retribution or resistance when the cargo ship personnel are prohibited from carrying weapons. Let's concentrate on the present and not the dead past. The cargo shipping industry needs to change their policy regarding firearms, period. Does anyone really think that a motorized inflatable raft with 4 to 6 thugs holding AK-47's would ACTUALLY attack a CARGO SHIP with 50 or more ARMED sailors? I think not! The only analagous situation that I can draw on is when we as teenagers would take our 22's to the landfill, set up an umbrella and some folding chairs, and shoot the wharf rats when they would waddle from pile to pile. The cargo shipping industry needs to solve its own situation, and not rely on the U.S. Navy intervening-----OR------the cargo shipping industry needs to pay a fee to the U.S.A. for the services of the U.S.N. when interventions are performed. Justus, you will continue to bemoan your allegations of wrongdoing ad infinitum---the end.

JUSTUS, that shows just how out of it you are. These pirates are attacking merchant shipping, and that affects us all, even you. The goods that these ships bring in and export create jobs, here and abroad, and if shipping is affected, then jobs suffer. I say, put these ships in convoys and have them escorted by a warship. One or two incidents where these animals have their vessels blown out of the water and they'll crawl back under the rocks they came from.

Well, I guess under your dumb policy, we will be every where in the world. The United States Armed Forces should not be used as the world's police force. So Sisterx, where do you draw the line? Should we place them at the Mexican border? What about the Canadian border? Should we place them off the coast of Costa Rica and Columbia to stop the flow of drugs? Be for real and not act dumb. It's far better to use the "dumb policy" of drawing a line SOMEWHERE than to just stick your head in the sand and pretend like nothing affects you unless it's directly in your face.

Still did not answer my question. Are you calling for the U.S. to be the world's police force? Why not hire Black Waters or Halliburton (sic?) to escort or be on these ships? It is not practical for the Military to be expected to carry out that role.

It was practical enough when Jefferson took care of pirates, but not for Obama. Is he not up to the job of President? I think he can handle it.

ARm the cargo ships with 50 cal. mounted machine guns and blow the boats out of the water if they even get close. No one will miss a few Somalian pirates. Who cares what happens to them if it keeps them away from the ships and their crews.
