Display of temper is beneath Tiger

  • Follow Letters

Tiger Woods is a star and a hero to many. He has become one of the world's great athletes by talent, focus, intelligence and perseverance. He is an international figure with an incredible future still ahead of him -- a record-breaking future. People look up to him for all he has accomplished while showing great character. I love to see his fist raised in triumph, or a gracious acceptance of defeat.

What I hate to see is a color picture of him on the front page of the April 10 Masters edition of The Augusta Chronicle throwing his club -- not a class act!

I agree...poor sportsmanship of one of our finest, sux.

Sometimes i think the sports media concentrates on his frustrations more than any other golfer. Ive seen phil and others drop f bombs when they have missed puts or hit bad iron shots/drives. Or what about fuzzy's sportsmanship in 1997? or sergio garcia's comments last sunday about the augusta national in general? All golfers get frustrated. Tiger is just the one seen on tv the most.

There's a huge difference between temper and frustration. I think the perception is determined by the reporting and the reader's ability to understand.

Motorman5039

So what he threw his club big deal, it gave the AC and other media outlets something to photograph and talk about so great...I guess he isn't human and isn't allowed to show frustration....

apex24

BET also covered the club throwing. I guess they wanted people to see how foolish the Brotha looked.

Molly Gray, get a hobby or something...

Tiger Woods is just your typical spoiled, overpaid athlete. Big deal...we see their childish behavior everyday. Anybody remember motormouth John McEnroe or Illie Nastasie? How about Reggie Jackson or Jose Conseco? They get paid millions of dollars a year to play a sport or for product endorcements when there are cancer researchers trying to find a cure working for peanuts. It's just the screwed up society we live in. It won't change, so deal with it.

soldout

If you follow him on the course he has a pretty foul mouth which is always a choice; even in moments of frustration. Out of the heart the mouth speaks.

christian134

justus4 I had no idea your family ties reached to Tiger Woods...Oh my bad...I forgot for a moment your ideology...Uh the man is of a darker persuasion therefore he is allowed to behave anyway he pleases...People are not to speak out at all against any unseemly behavior if committed by a "brotha or sista"...:-)

HYPOCRITES 08

APEX you are an idiot. Why is everything the " Brotha' this or the " brotha" that? The one that appears to be stupid, is you.

HYPOCRITES 08

Sounds like CH is a little jealous. Maybe if you had the talent of a Tiger Woods, Reggie Jackson or the others you named, you would not come across as green with envy.As for you christian, as one poster stated, what about Phil, Norman or others. I have seen and heard things from them that were not exactly PG-13. Yet you only have this B.S. come up every time Tiger plays the Masters. I remember Daley (sic?) throwing his whole bag in a pond and coming to a tournament drunk.

Right on, Hypo. When I was little, I once saw Sam Snead get so stressed over a lip-out that he slammed his putter down and seriously damaged it. The rules stated that he couldn't replace the club though the shaft was bent at a ridiculous angle. This incident made me admire Slammin' Sammy even more--especially after he finished the round under par. Tiger is so cool most of the time that I appreciate being reminded occasionally that he even has a temper. Otherwise, I might start looking for evidence of his electronic circuitry.

apex24

Hypo, your a dumb [filtered word]. Your brotha Justus is the one who is always talking about the bros but your to CS to say anything about that RACIST pig.

HYPOCRITES 08

APEXyoupieceofsheit, he is more your ' Brotha" than mine.

apex24

Hypo, you 9:53 post makes absolutly no sense. But that goes hand in hand with most of your post on this website.

WWF Smackdown Hypo08 vs. Apex24! Sundaaaaay!! OK Woods is very focused and plays a mental game. So if he throws his club remember that it is his club to throw. Hopefully he will fix any divit he makes by throwing the club. This is not a major issue to fight over, is it?

dhd1108

actually this display of temper is "right on par" for Tiger Woods. One year while working as litter control at the Masters my 18 year old self approached him meekly, and asked if he would sign my hat, as graciously as Tom Lehman, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, and Greg Norman did. What did he do? he knocked it out of my hand and said I would just sell it on eBay. Not a class act. Not a good role model. Its nice that he's inspired more people to play golf, but in my view, he's nancy, whiny and way too self important to take part in a "gentleman's game" like golf. Perhaps he should try wrestling instead.

Tiger's always had a temper. Big deal. I couldn't care less about golf. I'll stick to football, no hotheads there:>)

How can you play a "mental" game and be heard screaming "GODDAMMIT!" when you make a bad shot? And I'm not just talking about Tiger Woods.....The "game" of golf is "Supposed" to be a "Gentleman's" game. But they allow foul mouthed adolescents of every age to play, even in the pros, if they can make it "interesting". Professional Golfers spend hundreds of hours a week hitting balls....over and over and over again....when they "make a bad shot" during competition, they tend to lose it. Could it be poor sportsmanship? The personality that drives those with "great athletic ability" lends itself to folly.......but the TRUE GREATS are not defined by "How Graciously They Win" but by "How Graciously They Lose" and "How Well One Plays The Game" lies somewhere in between. I tend to laugh at my "errant shots" on the golf course but........I never play for money.

shivas

I tend to enjoy the passion.

EARL84

pretty funny to have justus' take on golf... who'd have thought it would involve the "unfair" treatment of minorities?

HYPOCRITES 08

APEX, it make just as much sense as any of your does. If you paid attention, I have posted many of times in the past, that I do not believe JUSTUS is Black. So in my opinion, he may just be your " Brotha".

HYPOCRITES 08

TU, great post @ 10:44 AM.

Tujeez1

I lean towards more gentile memories of the Masters......when those faced with "sudden death" playoffs shook hands and divided the top two purses evenly amongst themselves. THAT WAS BACK WHEN GOLF WAS GREAT! Now, it's only "FUN" when "they" are winning......

justthefacts

I love it that Tiger is so competitive he loses it from time to time. Anyone who plays golf can understand. Who wants to watch robots (Phil)? Unlike McEnroe, Tiger nevers abuses other people, only himself...and maybe his clubs.

TechLover

Tuj: Does that mean before they let Jews in?

justthefacts

Tujez, when was that? There were never co-champions at the Masters.

apex24

Hypo, I don't give a damn if he's black or not, he's a Leftist Liberal jerkweed who likes to throw the grenade into the crowd then run like the weasel he is.
