The American Red Cross' Augusta chapter seeks volunteers to help Richmond County residents with cleanup Saturday.
"We don't really know what kind of response we're going to get, but right now we're hoping that we'll have maybe 50 to 75 volunteers and we'll take them to several different sites out there and they'll be cleaning and helping bag up debris," said Jo Maypole, executive director of the Red Cross Augusta chapter.
Ms. Maypole said anyone who wants to help should be at the Red Cross' Augusta office at 1322 Ellis St. between 8 and 9 a.m.
Habitat for Humanity volunteers will form teams to go where homeowners have asked for help.
"We just ask that (volunteers) wear work clothes and bring their safety gear, and tools and work gloves because it's going to be mostly cleanup activity," Ms. Maypole said.
The Red Cross also needs monetary donations. Ms. Maypole said her chapter has spent about $6,000 in donations providing temporary lodging and food for storm victims.
In Aiken County, the Red Cross is anticipating $25,000 to $30,000 in costs for assistance to victims, said Suzanne Jackson of the Aiken chapter.
Donations can be made to the Aiken chapter at 1314 Pine Log Road, by calling (803) 641-4152 or online at www.aikencountyredcross.org
The Augusta chapter can be reached at its office or by calling (706) 724-8481.

Volunteers? The county and city employees and the rest of the government jerks that are glued to their seats and drawing a fat check oughta be the first ones out there.
Stingray966 - Are you that negative? Does it matter who helps out? Or do you feel as though you are somehow better than everybody else and therefore can judge those around you, deciding ahead of time who will and who won't be there? Hmm.... Kuntrygirl has it right when she said we should help our neighbors. It doesn't matter who does it.
