CALHOUN FALLS, S.C. - Entered into rest on Good Friday, April 10, 2009, Al Augustus ÒGusÓ Johnson, son of the late Walter Johnson, Sr., and Lucille Johnson and brother of Boston (Marie) Johnson, N. Augusta, S.C. Gus was a member of the Abbeville County Training School Class of 1951. He left South Carolina and moved to Detroit where he worked for Chrysler Motor Company and continued his education. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Gus was a successful businessman, a proud member of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. and a lifetime member of the NAACP. Funeral services will be conducted (today) Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. from Brownoh A.M.E., Calhoun Falls, S.C. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Survivors are his loving wife of twenty-three years, Lena Moses Johnson; son, Michael (Shirley) Johnson of Calhoun Falls, S.C.; daughter, Lawanna (Gregory) Gaylen of Grayson, Ga.; grandchildren, Al Johnson, II, Priscilla Johnson, Miles Gaylen and Marcela Gaylen; and a host of brothers, aunts, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
