Where's compassion toward others?

  • Follow Letters

In reply to Lida Bellmer's letter ("Revolution against liberals is brewing," April 13), Ms. Bellmer is wrong on a couple of points.

First, President Obama has not tried to break the "spirit" of America but has instead tried to revitalize the sense of pride in the United States that the last president did his best to destroy in his quest of power.

Ms. Bellmer also is wrong about a revolution brewing. There already has been a revolution. It was called the election, where more than two-thirds of the electorate spoke loudly and clearly.

I notice that Ms. Bellmer lacks compassion toward people who made bad choices in buying a home. In her last line, Ms. Bellmer states that liberals "want to give anybody something for nothing." Since Easter has just passed, I want to ask Ms. Bellmer: Did not God give you something for nothing? Did Jesus say to give compassion and mercy only to these people, and not those people? Of course not. He said to love all men as your brothers.

There is no doubt that our country is going through hard times, but if we unite as a country and forget our political differences, then we can bring back the United States, and we can do great things for our country. I'm willing to try; how about you?

I was taught not to judge people, but it seems to me that Ms. Bellmer and people like her already have judged President Obama and given up on America. Shame on you!

Jay Collett

I like your thoughts Mr.

I like your thoughts Mr. Collet but a fella named Rodney King expressed just about the same thing awhile back. It went something like "Can't we just all get along?" It didn't work then and probably won't work today. The last time I saw Americans join in a united front was the day after Pearl Harbor (12/8/1941). It's been a long dry spell since then. GGpap

Obama is trying his best to
Unpublished

Obama is trying his best to rekindle the admiration of the world after our credibility and arrogance over the past 8 years has been ruined. There's a huge mess that has to be cleaned up and so far... he's heading in the right direction. It's too bad that the ignorant right-wingers do not understand this. It's about time we had someone with the brains to quit following ideals that have not been working and try something different. It may be scary... but it's less scarier than where we WERE headed!!!!

Obama goes to Europe, says

Obama goes to Europe, says muslims helped form America (how Mr President? unless in a negative way), calls America arrogant, then arrogently tells Europe to let Turkey into the European Union. The Germans not so nicely told him to butt out! Obama asked for money for Bail outs got none, ask Europe to take muslim extremeist caught in battle and France will take one, asked for 17,000 NATO troups and got 0. Asks the UN to do something about Korea and gets zip nada nothing. Boy I sure am glad he is restoring America's image as being less arrogant and demanding of our allies!

Where were all you people

Where were all you people during the Bush administration? - if only you were so willing to "unite as a country and forget our political differences" - just imagine what could have been. Liberals LOVE unity as long as it means conservatives uniting with THEM!

Unpublished

The writer is correct with his observations and makes a good point about liberals "give anybody something for nothing" and exposes Bellmer's LTE as shallow. Some are using that approach to the new president's policies to create a winners & losers mentality, which they hope translate into votes. It won't work because most Americans are smarter than that. And the reference about the November vote being revolutionary was even more accurate and on point.

How can I unite behind some

How can I unite behind some one who promises to DOUBLE the national debt? Obama PROMISES to double in 4 years what it took us 200 some year to produce (that includes George Bush's debt)! This is a recipt for for ruining America.

Gee JUSTUS, you made an entire post without ranting about the "non-minority media." I'm impressed. Jay Collett's letter is funny considering the venom that the left has spewed for the last 8 years toward Bush and the Republicans. I guess that was okay. For all you O supporters, look at history. Times change and parties in power change. I'm reminded of an old Roman expression that goes, "All glory is fleeting."

Absolutely right Mr.

Absolutely right Mr. Collett!! You see, people like Ms. Bellmer have lived their lives under the false impression that she and others like her are the only ones who work hard, have goals and expectations, and want happiness. A true elitist mentality and phompous attitude, believing she is the thermometer on deciding who deserves what...And I gaurantee you she calls herself a christian...Thank goodness the majority of Americans don't think like Ms. Bellmer, the majority of Americans have had their revolution last November in the voting booth!!!

America is wrong to defend

America is wrong to defend themselves. America is wrong to send aid to countries suffering natural disaster. America is wrong to not bow down to the world court. America is wrong to not accept a tax to support the U.N.. America is wrong to want their representatives in D.C. to behave in a moral and honest manner. America is wrong to want Obama to not be a Marxist. No wonder Obama spent his European tour winning the respect for America by scraping and bowing and apologizing for America. America will have a hard time surviving this horrible experiment. Join the TEA party and send the message that 2010 is only 1 1/2 years away.

SCGL53: I doubt you know what

SCGL53: I doubt you know what demonstrates being proud to be American, so your jaundiced comment has no value...If he was such an embarassment I guess you thought GWB was the opposite...Like I said your jaudiced opinion shines through and shows you really don't know what you are talking about...And if he was a total embarrassment I guess the crowds he drew and the positive media coverage of him worldwide was staged...have you ever been out of the country? I have, and I tell you the perception of Americans was not positve, mostly due to the cavalier attitude exhibited by our last prez; thank goodness American popularity is on the rise thanks to our current president!!!

If the world were a perfect

If the world were a perfect place, we would all get along. It's not. We all want peace on earth. We all just have different ideas on how to obtain these things. CH: Good point about the last 8 years. I have never heard such vile comments and hate regarding a president (GW) in my entire life. Wonder if Jay Collett was trying to shame any of those people for their opinions. NOT!!!

All comments about GWB were

All comments about GWB were warranted and justified based on his actions...PBHO will be judged on his actions too, it's just that smart educated people know the difference between whining by sore losers and bitter people verses true comments and concerns based on action and facts..Thus far the majority of bad reviews of PBHO have been bitter whining by idiotic people who listen to Hannity and Bortz all day long, tools and fools that they are..

I voted for Bush, both of

I voted for Bush, both of them. Can any of you truly define the difference between a dem and a rep? I remember the years of Jimmy Carter. Military was at an all time low. Took a rep to restore pride in military. then comes along Bill Clinton. Don't ask don"t tell! I for one am very glad we had GW the last eight years. Kept the terrorists out of our country! I'm sure some dem will have an explanation saying it was the dems that scared the hell out of the terrorists. GW was no great pres, but he sure defended the country better than "lockbox" Al would have!

When people tell me they are

When people tell me they are a democrat, I ask them how they feel about these 4 things. Taxes, welfare, government intrusion, and abortion. If I remember right, when W took office, we ALL got a rebate from the govt due to overpmt of our taxes! Flash ahead to the stimulus payments. I myself received 1500.00 in cash! What did any individual receive from the last stimulus?Hmmm? Welfare? Nothing but vote buying. Govt Int? Dems want to have all these programs in place to safeguard idiots, but it covers us all like a blanket. Abortion, what can I say? You are eithor for or against, I'm pretty sure you are glad you weren't aborted by your mother!

Obama was an embarassement

Obama was an embarassement overseas, and Jesus comment did nothing for any of us. If Jesus really wanted to help he would have wiped out those who expect free hand outs at the expense of the hard working. A time for compassion and mercy is over how about conviction for theft?

Motorman5039 What positive

Motorman5039 What positive world press coverage? The English press skewered him, the German press told him to butt out of European affairs, the French press was tepid. The American press reports very little of the World press reaction to Obama! There has been some extremely funny satire of Obama in the English press!

Motorman5039 Obama deserves

Motorman5039 Obama deserves negative comments because of the bail out package he signed with out knoweing about the bonuses being in it and several other factors (he left that to Pelosi, Reid and company), failing to be able to get his government in place (still can't get people who aren't tax cheats or worst appointed), and then bowing to a foriegn king, and making a lot of negative comments about America! What a bafoon!

Tossing that "shame" right

Tossing that "shame" right back at you Jay. Did you try to forget your political differences with Bush during the last 8 years, or are conservatives the only ones who should abandon deeply felt political beliefs for the sake of "unity"? There is nothing wrong with political dissent, be it from the right or the left. There has always been political strife and division in America--the first parties sprung up during Washington's presidency. Don't pretend that it just started with the election of Mr. Wonderful.
