Why the controversy over a club?

  • Follow Letters

As we look to adding memberships to private clubs according to gender, perhaps we should look at existing parity.

The Augusta National Golf Club, with a male membership, is on Washington Road. Augusta Country Club, with mixed membership, is on Milledge Road, abutting the Augusta National. The Augusta Woman's Club, with a female membership, also is on Milledge Road.

It would appear that one club holds a golf tournament once a year exclusive to males, while another club holds bridge tournaments throughout the year exclusive to women, and the community has a club open to both located approximately halfway between the two.

And there is a controversy? Give me a break!

Mr. Britt, nicely said. I would suggest that the controversy you mention in your closing is no more than a "tempest in a tea pot" that has the unfortunate habit of "blowing in the wind" just when the Masters rolls around. GGpap

huh. i'm waiting for willistonsc to go into "hysterics" over those "misogynistic" practices at the National. Doy

Ummm, believe me this is no national controversy. No one cares outside of Augusta. Inside of Augusta, it is just a means to bash liberals.

People outside Augusta could care less and inside Augusta we care even less than that. The Augusta National is a place for rich men with nothing important to do but look important. Ever watched those old geezers who work at the National with the green coats, stupid hats and two-way radios prancing around during the tournament? How ridiculous.

Sounds like Green Jacket Envy to me?

THE GAME INSIDE THE GAME

I wish I had a green jacket and a radio and could go wherever i wanted to at the greatest golf tournament in the world.
