House OKs resolution to display golf statues

A resolution approved the final day of the General Assembly session supports allowing six statues commemorating inductees in the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame to be displayed in Augusta during future Masters weeks.

Such resolutions have no force of law, but legislators ask the Clerk of the House to send a copy to the groups involved.

Rep. Barbara Sims, R-Augusta, and Rep. Quincy Murphy, D-Augusta, introduced House Resolution 1001 to state the House of Representatives' request that the Hall of Fame board "allow the City of Augusta, its residents, and the many visitors attending the Augusta Masters Golf Tournament to enjoy the great heritage of golf represented through its statues."

The House adopted the resolution the same day it was introduced, along with dozens of others honoring Eagle Scouts, retired educators and high school athletic teams. There was no discussion or even committee hearings about the pros and cons of the resolution or testimony from the board about its intensions.

Is there any reason for a resolution? Is approving resolutions just a way to mark time for politicians?

The statues should be the property of the city/county and be displayed permanently in a safe location.
