Affordable drugs ease seniors' worries

The Senior Citizens Council of Greater Augusta and the CSRA recently played host to a Medicare Lunch & Learn with the Medicare Rx Access Network in Augusta.

U.S. Rep. John Barrow sent a lovely representative to participate in our discussion of Medicare Part D prescription drug plans, the successes of 2008 and where we are headed in 2009.

Our discussion was interesting and very informative, and I would like to thank Rep. Barrow and his staff for listening to our concerns and suggestions of how Medicare Part D can make prescription drugs more affordable.

In these tough economic times, seniors have many worries, and paying for their prescription drugs tops the list. Together, we can work to make sure that senior citizens have peace of mind when it comes to their drug costs.

We appreciate Rep. Barrow's support and urge him to continue to ensure that prescription drugs remain affordable, despite our current financial situation.

Medicare Part D has a annual limit it will pay and that limit is somewhere a little over $2,000., which will not buy much medication in today's world. If you are a diabetic, your testing supplies could cost close to this amount, much less the over priced medication to treat diabetes. Plus in most cases you have to pay for the Part D insurance. Doesn't give one much peace of mind.

Medicare Part D has helped millions of people by making their prescription drugs more affordable. I, for one, am thrilled that we have this option.
