Taylor Ramsey, 14, and Ashlan Ramsey, 13, share a drive for golf. They also share practice time and a healthy Venus and Serena Williams-like sibling rivalry on the course.
"We try to help each other get better," Taylor said.
Ranked 130 on the American Junior Golf Association board, Ashlan finished in the top five of two tournaments and top 10 in all five tournaments she played in last year. Taylor, ranked 177, placed third in the Scissortail Junior Championship in August.
Ashlan is ranked sixth in the state by Golfweek in the girls division, and Taylor is ranked 12th.
Each of the sisters plays the No. 2 spot on the boys golf team at their schools: Taylor is a freshman at Augusta Christian and Ashlan is an eighth grader at Stallings Island Middle School.
Traveling to tournaments together and interacting with a team is more fun than individual events, Taylor said.
Ashlan also enjoys the team time on the course: "You try to go out and beat all the guys," she said.
The two got their starts in the sport by hitting balls at an old driving range with their dad, Al. It's one of Taylor's favorite golf memories.
Now, the two log serious practice time three to four times a week.
"(It's) a lot of hard work," Ashlan said.
"It's basically school, then golf," Taylor added.
The sisters are confident their hard work will pay off.
"We definitely want to get a college scholarship for golf," Taylor said.
Taylor is looking at Georgia, Duke or Stanford; Ashlan is considering Georgia, South Georgia or Stanford.
Having set goals early sets them apart from other teens, Taylor said.
"We have a drive," she said.
