AUGUSTA, Ga. - George Edward "Boot" Neal, age 74, was born March 26, 1943 in Barnwell, S.C. to the late John and Amelia Neal. George departed this life on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Heartland Hospice of Augusta. George graduated from Lucy C. Laney High School, Class of 1956. Boot was a talented and well rounded athlete who enjoyed and excelled in many athletic activities during his high school years. He also played a number of years on the city Baseball team, The Augusta Black Sox. George retired from Thermal Ceramics, Inc. (Babcock and Wilcox) of Augusta, Ga. George is survived by his two sisters, Chester Neal Sapp of Jacksonville, Fla. and Joe Estel Neal Mays of Augusta, Ga.; best friends, Richard Johnson and Lindsay Carter, Jr., both of Augusta; nephew, Thomas Mays of Ft. Washington, Md.; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Peoples Funeral Home.
