Nation could face divine punishment

  • Follow Letters

Our country was founded on religious principles. The people of this nation used to have compassion for human life, and love for their fellow man. But now we're far removed from any type of morals. We have become a "me" society. Our greed has consumed us and poisoned our minds.

I'm reminded of the Book of Jeremiah in the Bible. It talks about how the people of Jerusalem turned away from God, and how God punished them for that. They did not listen or pay attention to what God was saying. Instead they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts. Jeremiah 8:6 says, "No one repents of his wickedness, saying 'What have I done?' "

I believe we are being punished as well. We as a nation have turned our backs to God. And until we repent and ask for forgiveness, we will endure the same fate that Jerusalem did.

Brad, the "me" generation started 40 years ago. Your god is just a bit slow in meting out his punishment if what you suggest is fact. But, at least you've had your moment of public testimony. Now go away, and say your prayers behind closed doors as you've been advised to do in your magic book. GGpap

GGpap. I really feel sorry for you. Have you been blind all your life? You won't even see it coming will you.You seem to have already reserved your seat in hell. Have a cool trip.

I'm ready for people to start turning into pillars of salt already. Moon turning into blood, & locusts the size of Hummers.

CH

People like GGap and DHD are proof that unlike what Obama says about America, it is the greatest country in the world. Where else could people like them post their idiotic crap everyday and have it protected by law?

ThurstonHowell

CH- You forgot to add the letter writer to that group.

corgimom

Where do people get these bizarre ideas? If we are being "punished", why do we still enjoy one of the highest living standards in the world? The economic mess we're in is the result of humans making bad decisions. Does Brad Messer think that God should guarantee everyone a job?

If we survived after slavery, hanging and crushing "witches", child labor, and other unsavory practices at the start of this country, we'll continue to survive.

justthefacts

Justus, it's over. Believe me there isn't a white person alive who isn't sorry. We are definately reaping what we sowed.

I wonder if they want the same apology from blacks who were the ones who sold them into slavery. What Love! And it still shows today. I'll let them figure that one out.

HotFoot

I'm so glad that the Masters visitors will get a true taste of what Augusta is all about: religious Chicken Littles wringing their hands about divine retribution in the pages of what is supposed to be a serious newspaper. Hey, AC editorial board, what have you got lined up for Thurs-Sun? Maybe someone will write in tongues or something.

Perhaps everyone who is here visiting will want to move down because now they know that the holiest of holy Christians are living right in the CSRA. And if Revelations ever does come to pass (and I sure as hell am not holding my breath), then it must be so that the CSRA will stand for Christians Survive Revelations Always. Sing the praises and sign me up for the Rapture. And if there is punishment and somebody gets turned into a pillar of salt, then guess who it will be?

Founded on religious principles only to the extent they were useful and expedient - today: a way for high school graduate preachers to control those who can be convinced.

Welcome to the 'Garden of Good and Evil' City, Masters visitors!

digmick

The country was founded in the time of slavery and religious persecution. There was love for their fellow man as long as they weren't Black, Native American, Baptist, Catholic, or Jewish.

JUSTUS4-I would love to know what you really know about slavery, your own people sold you into bondage and are still doing it today. There are seven books in the bible new and old on the issue of slavery and nothing negative about it,on how slaves and bond people should work for there master and how the master should treat them.all races of people have been slaves one time are another through history.you are just ate up with hate and can't open your eyes.there were thosands of black men that fought for the south and received a pension from the confederate states after the war, many of them received metals

justthefacts, you could not have said it better, I'm with you all the way!

The "me" generation has been here for a long long time. It is the cost of living in a capitalist society. I'm not anti-capitalism, but you have to recognize that when you buy into it... it is about profit. This is not the rewards and punishments of God, it is the rewards and costs of capitalism.

stillamazed

i think that while we have visitors in town that the chronicle should save letters to the editor like this one for after company goes home, these types of letters always bring out the worst in everyone, regardless of which side you take. religion and politics you can't discuss either in a rational way and both sides come out sounding like a bunch of idiots...

soldout

Good letter Brad. God doesn't really have to do anything since He established sowing and reaping. The Bible says the earth even vomits forth it's people if enough sin exists. We are blessed in the fact that the Word says God makes decisions about a nation based on what His people are doing so the Christians control the outcome of the country. Christians will be cared for through it all. Jesus said in the word that He didn't even pray for the world but for those the Father has given Him to care for. Christians are the light and the ones holding things together. Even the non-Christian prefer Christinas to be in charge because they can be trusted more and have more mercy.

InChristLove

It is so sad that there are so many people posting on here and in the world in general who do not know God Almighty or believe the words he has given us in the Holy Bible. The statement Christ made about their eyes are blind and they can not hear is so true.

toldya

God has always given Man freedom of choice. And therein lies the problem, most humans go for the "instant satisfaction" instead of knowing anything worth having takes time and patience. Feel sorry for this guy

drumbeater1

i am not sorry...i did not own slaves, and slavery was what it was....it over. period.

grouse

Oh, I wish The Chronicle would not publish these idiotic letters during Masters...I'm sure much of the country thinks we are backward dolts already and this just reinforces that. May I remind Mr. Messer that God appears nowhere in the Constitution. That people believe in such myth is amazing.

Former Augustan

More nonsensical religious pap from those CERTAIN that there is a God and shoving their beliefs in our faces at every turn . . . "grouse" note above is perfectly said!

Tujeez1

...we hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights............WHAT IS A CREATOR????? But a GOD???? Can you create a MAN, beginning with nothing? Without a sperm or an egg? Give it up idiots, GOD is Implied in the constitution, and you KNOW it. So, shut up and drive, on your highway to hell.........enjoy the ride, hope it's short for you.

disssman

I am so concerned that the Masters guest will be offended during their drunken parties over a letter in the paper. Give me a break. To start with the visitors could care less about what is written and I doubt they really take time from their use of my city to read letters to the editor. BTW why hasn't god performed a miracle or talked to anyone for the past 2000 years? Before that time he was around on a regulat basis talking and destroying various things he didn't like. Why has he been absent for 2000 years? Oh and BTW why did he only talk to a single person and never a group?

dani

I doubt if you could find a dozen out-of-towners reading the newspaper (with the exception of the sports page) nor this board. Really. We are not THAT important.

tuj: You're quoting the Declaration of Independence. The Constitution has no mention of God.
