Country needs to get right with God

  • Follow Letters

You hardly can look at a newspaper or turn the television on without seeing stories of doom and gloom. I am not saying the situation is not bad, but times have been worse.

I do not know where in the Constitution the president is given the authority to take over businesses or tell them what they can pay the employees. I would like to know when the people elected a dictator to lead this country down the road to socialism and communism.

We as Americans have brought on all these problems by the way we have left God out of our everyday lives. There are so many other things that have replaced the one true God in America. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe idolatry, sports, homosexuality and high taxes were part of the reason for the downfall of the Roman Empire.

God has been kicked out of the schools by not allowing Bible-reading and prayer in the schools. By endorsing homosexual marriages and abortions of million of babies per year, we have invited the judgment of God upon us. I am aware everyone has not left Him out, but we are all guilty of sitting still and letting it happen.

Today you hardly ever hear a sermon on sin, judgment and hell. The preachers want to make people feel good about themselves.

It is time for everyone, especially the church world, to get before God, confess our lethargy, ask for His forgiveness and ask Him to help us wake up, and take a stand for him. Also, we need to get back to the Bible for ourselves, really study it and not just take the preachers' word for what it says.

We can be victorious, but our help has to come from God and not the government.

You can read the Bible and

You can read the Bible and pray in school. I'm sure what Mr Mathews means is that he's disappointed that you can't force students to do either. The Roman Empire, like the British Empire, and all empires fell because a small area with a smaller population can only rule a larger area with a larger population miltaristically for a limited time.

How does one resolve the fact

How does one resolve the fact that the Constitution is a SECULAR document, which prohibits the government from establishing or endorsing any religion? Mandating or even allowing any one religion to practice(force others to listen and or participate) in public schools is a direct violation of the Constitution, and even violates the very principles espoused by Christ. He never forced anyone to listen to him, and said in various ways not to make a public show of piety or prayer. When one has a PERSONAL relationship with God, it's personal, not PUBLIC! Those of you who wish to force this on others are PHARISEES!! You are AGAINST CHRIST!

Don, maybe you were on vacation but in answer to your question as to when this country elected a dictator ... it was last November. All the signs were there but most got caught up in the "rock star" status. Unfortunately all of us will pay for what the uneducated, immoral majority wanted! P.S. to GaCopperhead ... one word for you ...VALIUM!

Really, Mr. Matthews? See,

Really, Mr. Matthews? See, *I* feel that Pres. Obama is here to right many of the wrongs of the past eight years. I don't think in terms of "being right with God" but I do believe in ethics and morality, and both have been sorely lacking. To use your way of looking at the world, Pres. Obama is "part of God's plan" (and not a harbinger of the Apocalypse, either). GACopperhead is right about the Pharisees. I'm relieved that the Pharisee in Chief has been replaced by a just and competent servant.

Excellent letter Don. You

Excellent letter Don. You are attacked but the Bible says you will be. Since you are not ashamed of God here He is not ashame of you there. Most who attack you are those who don't want to be reminded about God. They never want to be held accountable for their actions by God. Most have made science or themselves their god but you have made the right choice. Enjoy the attacks as each one increases your rewards here and in heaven and shows the hearts of the attackers.

Mr. Matthews should be

Mr. Matthews should be commended on his stance for God. What is going on in America today is absolutely shameful and immoral. I remember praying not only in church and at home, but in school as well. I remember blessing our food before lunch at school. I remember being taught the Golden Rule and saying the pledge. Now our children are not allowed what I considered a freedom. Moral decay is ramant and only getting worse. God will not tolerate this much longer. He loves us no matter what, even the nonbelievers. I hope a lot of people wake up before it's too late.

Also God have a hand in whatever happens, do you think that he had a plan, for Obama to be president? I thought it was written in the BOOK, the day you came into the world , what God had in store for each one of us. Do you belive in all of the bible, or just the part that suits you.

Mr. Matthews I agree with you

Mr. Matthews I agree with you on a few points. But please post and explain the victory you are hoping to achieve.I would believe you are refering to the Government as the endorser of abortion its not.The courts only rule on the legality of the act. They dont say pro-con on the subject.Your argument is if the government provides funds for this act.Thats where anti-abortion groups lose their way. They try to argue a belief system on legal grounds. To win this argument religion is going to have to square dispassionately arguing a patently passionate position. The best route to winning lies in the argument of what government can and can't do with your tax dollars where ultimately all arguments with the government lies.

O the many idiotic letters

O the many idiotic letters that the AC chooses to print, this one is a contender for the grand prize. It would be an exercise in futility to address any of the points made, since they are all irrational -- and one cannot carry on a rational discussion when the other party is irrational. Mr. Matthews is obviously obsessed with the religion industry as offering solutions to the world's problems. In fact, quite the opposite is the case, since it is the absurdities, criminality, bigotry, avarice, mendaciousness, deceitfulness, and insanity of the holy books and holy men (& women) that are at the heart of intolerance, evil, ignorance, and unnatural and uncivil behavior. And, by the way, why is it that the omnipotent, omniscient, omni-amorous Sky-Daddy never "heals" amputees? --- "Dogma demands authority, rather than intelligent thought, as the source of opinion; it requires persecution of heretics and hostility to unbelievers; it asks of its disciples that they should inhibit natural kindliness in favor of systematic hatred." (Bertrand Russell)

A lot of people believe that

A lot of people believe that God wrote the Bible. It's his inspired, divine word and part of the plan for human kind. It wasn't Moses, Paul, unknown Jewish scribes and others that wrote it. It was God. It seems to give people, a sense of confidence that what makes God happy, sad and angry can be known. It's like saying that, Leonardo Di Vinci was inspired by the Mona Lisa to paint her picture; therefore, Mona Lisa actually painted her own picture by using a mind meld and his skill as a painter. Other people believe that the Bible is a collection of stories passed down through generations for the purpose of teaching morality and establishing common controls. People need to read more than one book. You can't depend on having all the answers by just relying on what's in the Bible. It isn't so much that God wants to impose his will on people as it is that religious leaders want to impose their will.

Mr. Matthews I commend you in

Mr. Matthews I commend you in your obedience in writing this letter. It's no surprise that the majority of the comments posted are slamming you. Jesus said that we would be hated just as He was. I agree that our nation is on its way to socialism, that our dollar is losing its value, and that people are very deceived by the President and what is going on in our government. As commented earlier, God is not going to withhold His hand of judgement much longer. He will judge the U.S. just as He did with Sodom and Gomorrah. If He doesn't, He will have to raise Sodom and Gomorrah back up. While God knew long before we did that all of this would be happening, He first gave us free will to choose between right and wrong. We need to put God back in the pilot seat of this nation, and let Him turn around our economy, families, schools, workplaces, and yes even some churches. It's obvious that some of the posters have been badly hurt and scorned by churches and those in it. That's something they have to let God heal in them. People will choose to deny God until they day He comes back for His people but 1 day every knee will bow & every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord!

Same old, same old...Pagans

Same old, same old...Pagans against ANY religion..These heathens will never listen to us (unless they change their attitude and seek God) and they will continue these blasphemus ways till the Lord comes again...You & I have done what HE expects of us, we don't have to try and convince them, just TELL them and we have done that..The day will come when ALL of us will have to answer to God, that means believers & unbelievers alike..I'm just thankful that my life after death is sealed..Some will "bust" Hell wide open..Don't argue with them. They have been warned..

dbs:"oh yea your obama has

dbs:"oh yea your obama has spent more money than all the 43 presidents combined". One of the right wing radio heads must have made this erroneous statement because someone posted something similar on the Notre Dame LTE. You might want to actually do some research instead of repeating what Rush, Beck, Hannity, or whoever has to say. The 2010 budget is $3.6 trillion dollars. Bush's last budget was $3.1 trillion. The total for his 8 years was $20.37 trillion. I think if you add up the budgets since Washington you'll have a bit of trouble proving your assertion.

"Pagans, heathens" I'm sure

"Pagans, heathens" I'm sure you'll be disapponted, but the US is NOT a theocracy. In the US people are free to worship whichever God they choose and follow any religious sect they choose. The problem lies with some wanting to force their religious beliefs on others. As I've posted before, since the south is mostly evangelical protestant, how about having the school kids say a "hail Mary" to start the day. What? That's not your religion so it shouldn't be in school? That's the point. Whose sect would you like to become the official religion? Let the kids handle snakes? Kneel facing Mecca? I thought not.

Of course the days are

Of course the days are becoming more evil and the people are becoming more violent..so they choose evil over good....but for those of us who choose to seek God it's one decision we will never regret...for those who choose evil they will regret it but it will be too late.

While I strongly support the

While I strongly support the ESTABLISHMENT clause of the U.S. Constitution, I would like to see our society re-focus on the morality that come from religion - honor your father and mother, don't steal, love your neighbor as you love yourself - the Golden Rule - Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you.

Our society and culture have drifted from some of these basic foundations. We don't need a total conversion to any one religion. Just a return to some strong moral values.

Playing God may make people

Playing God may make people feel powerful saying what God is going to do to anyone who disagrees with a particular theological view. It doesn't mean that God is a puppet that can be controlled by whatever anyone says. There are a lot of people praying all over the world to try to influence world events and private wishes.

I don't believe that Revelations is true. It was just a book that the council of Carthage decided to put in the Bible in 397 A.D. The group decided that they needed a fear closer for their doctrine. Genesis and Revelations are bookends. A start and and end. They went through a lot of letters and documents to decide what they were going to go with as true. It was a group of men who were deciding, not God.

The Jews in Jesus time believed that, at most, that someone could spend a year to pay for their sins. They got out eventually.

First off, it's Revelation

First off, it's Revelation not Revelations. You would know that if you actually picked up the Bible to read it. Secondly, there isn't another book out there, like the Bible, that is revealing what is going on in the world today (famines, wars, earthquakes, ect.). The world isn't going to get any better. It's just a sign that Jesus' coming is just on the horizon. Just because you don't believe it, doesn't mean that everything in the Bible won't come to pass, even in Revelation. It is and it will.

By bad. Revelation. And just because you believe, doesn't mean it will come to pass either.

Actually, I have read it and studied it intensely. I was one of you until a couple of years ago. I still believe that Jesus philosophy is the best one around, but religions have twisted it around.

NoPartyFan It's obvious that

NoPartyFan It's obvious that you never were one of us. You just went through the motions like many others in the world. That is why many come to the knowledge of Christ but fall away. Because when you have a true life altering encounter with Jesus, nothing in this world will change you. Many people deceive themselves that because they go to church and listen to a sermon that they are a Christian. But, just because I go and stand in a gagrage that doesn't make me a mechanic. You have develop a relationship with Jesus, pray, and read His Word. For whatever reason you turned away I am sorry for you. But, I pray that God will use someone or something to reveal His truth, love, power, and goodness to you, and that He will heal your heart and spirit as well.
