I'm certainly not for more taxes but we had sure as hell better come up with more money locally or divert funds from asanine projects and get our Sheriff's office properly funded. The RCSO is undermanned, is using outdated equipment, and needs to have proper pay for their employees in order to keep the good officers and attract great recruits. The violent crimes in the entire CSRA are ridiculous. Although, with limited man power the department is doing a great job of aprehending the criminals after the acts, along with the help of the public, we desprately need more officers on the streets, working with the public and increase our community and pro-active policing. The Richmond County commissoners need to get their heads out of the sand and SOLVE these crime issues by properly funding the Sheriff's Office because without Public Safety, nothing else really matters...Downtown will never revitalize itself, South Augusta will not have new businesses come in to the area and West Augusta will continue to loose a lot of its good tax base to Columbia County. Spend the money now or it will cost us a great deal in the very near future.

The same thing I say when that tenant next door to me and her criminal son move out of here.. once they move this place will be safe again.. but as long as they live and they keep bringing the trash over here.. this place is not safe!!

It only takes one crappy family to bring a whole neighborhood down. Something tells me this impala was lifted and sitting on dubs.

Asitisinaug - I agree that the Richmond County Sheriff's Department OFFICERS need more money!!! The officers put their lives on the line every day to protect us. I live in West Augusta, which used to be a nice quiet little neighborhood, but I don't even feel safe enough to go for a walk by myself any longer. Augusta has gone to hell in a hand basket, so to speak. The officers are leaving the department in droves so something needs to be done ASAP.

I have been in this park many times. Most of the people living there are only trying to make a living as anyone else. Its ashame the thugs have to come in and endanger the lives of the people who are good honest people. I hope that the persons shoot will learn from this and do what they can to improve thier life style. To the comment earlier, the cops have been called several times and so has the park manager. You can only do so much, due to the law!!

mieshel

wow at the stereotypes! well i know alot if white people who has dubs too! As long as you pay for them, you can have whatever you like.

Reality

I guess I've out of the loop for a while, what is a dubs?

witness

Reality, dubs are 22 in. rims. I know this because I have a teenagers and he keeps me in touch with what is going on in their world and the dubs are not a black or white thing, it is that the younger generation like have large tires and rims on their cars and suvs.

I see that THE CHRONICLE can't "CAN"T HANDLE THE TRUTH" either, about their discretionary omissions of a criminal's description when an ethnic minority is involved. Political correctness is hazardous to the safety of the public.

elliottness

i think the witness gave a pretty good description considering it was still dark out side.identifyig the vehicle helps quite a bit.

Reality

It happened at 5:00 am, maybe they were going to work...ha ha ha ha
