MARTINSVILLE, Va. --- The truck race slated for Saturday at Martinsville Speedway was postponed because of steady rain and has been rescheduled for noon on Monday.

Rick Crawford won the pole during morning qualifying in a light drizzle, but the rain increased in intensity as the 2 p.m. starting time approached. It was called an hour later.

Crawford won the pole with a lap at 94.737 mph in his Ford. He'll start on the inside of the front row with Shane Sieg to his outside. Sieg's lap was at 94.326 mph in his Toyota.

The top 5 also includes Johnny Benson, Ron Hornaday Jr. and Colin Braun.

The pole is the sixth for Crawford in 301 career truck series starts, and he was not concerned with the prospect of seeing it postponed as the rain fell throughout the day.

"I don't mind not racing if nobody else gets to," he said.

The 0.526-mile oval does not have lights and can't support night racing.

FORMULA ONE: In Melbourne, Australia, Brawn GP became the first Formula One team in 39 years to take the pole position in its debut race when Jenson Button secured the spot for today's season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

Button's time of 1 minute, 26.202 seconds edged teammate Rubens Barrichello by three tenths of a second, giving the F1 newcomers both positions on the front row.

It was the fourth pole of Button's career and completed a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the England-based team, which was threatened with extinction when former owner Honda pulled out of the sport after the 2008 season.

Before former Ferrari strategist and Honda team principal Ross Brawn took over the team from the Japanese automaker, Button and Barrichello faced the prospect of looking for new jobs and watching races on television.

Button called the pole victory "just amazing. This is a great moment, not the most important of the weekend, but a great start."

"This is where we deserve to be, after the difficult times we have had," the 29-year-old British driver added.

"Roll on the season, I am so excited about this year."

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel will start from third on the grid at Melbourne's Albert Park circuit, ahead of BMW's Robert Kubica and Williams' Nico Rosberg.

Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton will start 18th.

NHRA: In Baytown, Texas, Antron Brown took the top spot in Top Fuel qualifying in the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals.

Cruz Pedregon (Funny Car), Jason Line (Pro Stock) and Andrew Hines (motorcycle) also took the provisional No. 1 positions in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event.

Brown drove his dragster to a 3.819-second run at 316.75 mph to take the No. 1 qualifying position.

It is Brown's second of the season and 16th of his career.
